The Elderly Care Fund brings high efficiency

Raising funds to take care of members

Currently, the Elderly Association of Xuan Tho village (Xuan Son commune, Van Ninh district) has nearly 200 members. Over the years, the association has carried out many meaningful and practical activities to care for the elderly. This result is partly due to the association's good approach in developing the Elderly Care Fund, which has raised more than 900 million VND so far. Initially, each member contributed 7,300 VND/year to create the fund when participating in association activities. From this amount, the association has lent capital to members to develop their family economy , with an interest rate of 2%/month. Each member can borrow 12 million VND, with a term of 3 to 5 years. Mr. Nguyen Duc Thien - Head of the Elderly Association of Xuan Tho village said that after many years of implementation, up to now, 100% of members have had access to loans to develop livestock and grow fruit trees, bringing high economic efficiency. Many members, thanks to the loan capital, have become well-off households. When the fund grows, the care of members is carefully organized. Those who are sick or ill are given a visitation fund by the association at the rate of 200,000 VND/person/time; and for members who pass away, the association gives a visitation fund of more than 16.7 million VND/person . Along with that, longevity celebrations, regular activities, cultural exchanges, health care, etc. are carefully organized by the association.

From the loan capital of the intergenerational club, the elderly members in Ninh Hoa have invested in developing livestock farming, bringing about efficiency.

Similarly, the Elderly Association of Vo Cang village (Vinh Trung commune, Nha Trang city) is a bright spot in the development of the Elderly Care Fund to promote the role of the elderly. Initially, when participating in the association's activities, each member was encouraged to contribute 40,000 VND to the fund, which has now increased to 200,000 VND/person. This fund is only used to lend capital to members to do business and to visit and pay respects when someone is sick or passes away. To develop the fund, the Executive Committee of the Association has mobilized the placement of more than 100 wooden savings boxes in members' families, with the words "Doing good deeds every day", "Living happily every day". Every day, members and their relatives go to the market or shop and have extra change, they voluntarily put it in the savings box to raise funds. Every 4 months, the Association visits each household to open the box to receive the fund and keep a clear public record of the amount of money contributed. This is a form of association that borrows money from members to lend to other members to do business with low interest rates. The interest is used to buy gifts, organize medical examinations, and take care of members; the principal still belongs to the members. When members are unfortunately sick or need to use it for work, the association will return the money that members have contributed to the fund. With this method, up to now, the Vo Cang Village Elderly Association has developed nearly 1 billion VND in the Elderly Care Fund to promote the role of the elderly...

Effective implementation

Mr. Vo Binh Tan - Vice Chairman of the Provincial Elderly Association said that currently, the whole province has more than 125,190 elderly members. In recent years, the work of caring for and promoting the role of the elderly has been well implemented by Party committees, authorities, and socio -political organizations. In particular, the work of building a Fund for Caring for and Promoting the Role of the Elderly has been implemented synchronously and achieved very positive results. Up to now, the whole province has 922 village and residential group associations establishing a Fund for Caring for and Promoting the Role of the Elderly, with an amount of more than 22.5 billion VND. Typically, the Vo Cang Village Elderly Association has developed nearly 1 billion VND; the Xuan Tho Village Association has developed more than 900 million VND; Tan Dan 1 Village Association (Van Thang Commune, Van Ninh) has developed more than 3 billion VND... Through actual surveys, the associations that raise funds for the Care of the Elderly and promote their role well have activities and movements that are vibrant, diverse, effective, practical and trusted by the elderly.

In addition, over the past years, the province has established 107 intergenerational self-help clubs. Most of the clubs operate very effectively with many useful contents, helping to improve the spiritual and material life of the elderly. Many clubs have built large funds, from 100 to 300 million VND to lend to members to invest in developing the family economy. The clubs have had many practical activities such as: Sharing experiences and effective ways of doing business; supporting cases of illness and disease; examining and monitoring, managing members' health; consulting on nutrition and health care for the elderly... "In the coming time, the association will replicate good practices in developing the Care Fund and promoting the role of the elderly, as well as intergenerational self-help clubs throughout the province. Thereby, contributing to improving the quality of activities at all levels of the Elderly Association; mobilizing and encouraging the elderly to continue participating in economic development, building a strong political system at the grassroots level", Mr. Vo Binh Tan shared.
