Internationalization of Vietnam's tea industry

VTC NewsVTC News28/09/2023

With a history spanning over 4,000 years, tea can be considered one of the most iconic symbols intertwined with the historical ups and downs, alongside the nation-building and national defense efforts of the Vietnamese people. Perhaps this is why tea culture has been deeply connected to the lives and spirituality of the Vietnamese for generations, creating an identity known as the "soul of Vietnamese tea."

Vietnam is the world's 5th largest exporter of tea and ranks 7th in tea production. Tea plants, or tea trees, have become an industrial crop, primarily grown in the mountainous and midland regions of Northern Vietnam (accounting for approximately 70%), followed by the Central Highlands, North Central Vietnam, the Central Coast, and the Northern Delta. Lam Dong province, in particular, is considered Vietnam's number one tea-producing region.

Recently, in Lam Dong province, the Provincial People's Committee, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the Doi Dep brand hosted a delegation from the organizing committee of the China International Tea Fair, which will take place in Guangzhou, China, later this year. At this event, Lam Dong province organized a seminar titled "Connecting Trade in the Guangzhou - Lam Dong Tea Industry." The seminar was attended by leaders of Lam Dong province and nearly 50 tea businesses and experts from China and Vietnam.

The delegation for the survey and trade promotion included the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Guangdong Tea Culture Promotion Association, the Chairman of the International Cooperation and Exchange Committee of the China Tea Circulation Association, the Director of the Tea Expo Project of Guangzhou Yiwu International Exhibition Co., Ltd., along with nearly 30 leading tea experts, entrepreneurs, and businesses from China.

At the program, the Doi Dep brand was one of the businesses and brands selected and nominated by Lam Dong province to participate in discussions and exchanges of experience in tea industry cooperation, as well as to introduce Vietnamese tea culture.

Furthermore, the Doi Dep brand also proposed the idea of organizing an annual World Tea Festival, opening up opportunities for Vietnamese tea trade with international partners. This would be a place for tea associations, production businesses, and tea artisans to interact, showcase their work, connect with potential buyers, and promote the tea industry worldwide.

Recently, the Doi Dep brand also proposed the idea and created a new concept and method of international diplomacy - Tea Connect, honoring Vietnamese tea culture at the "100 CEO Tea Connect" program at the Ho Chi Minh City Economic Forum 2023.
