According to a special correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency, on the afternoon of April 6 local time, within the framework of attending the 150th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly (IPU-150), in the capital Tashkent (Uzbekistan), National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with IPU President Tulia Ackson and IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong.

IPU President Tulia Ackson thanked National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man for taking the time to attend IPU-150; highly appreciated that since joining the IPU, Vietnam has always been an active member.

The successful hosting of the 132nd IPU Conference in 2015 and the Global Young Parliamentarians' Conference in 2023 has made a strong impression on parliamentarians, especially in terms of the thoughtful organization, discussion content and hospitality of the people.

In IPU conferences and discussions, Vietnam is always cited as a typical example of promoting gender equality, empowering women, and empowering young parliamentarians.

The IPU President expressed his impression of Vietnam's development achievements, including ensuring social justice and social security for the people, and was especially impressed by the decision to exempt all tuition fees for students from kindergarten to high school nationwide.

Sharing the achievements in socio-economic development and efforts to ensure social security and improve people's lives in the past time as well as major development orientations in the coming time, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man highly appreciated the important role and contributions of the IPU in implementing programs and strategies, promoting cooperation between the IPU and member parliaments, and enhancing the role and voice of parliaments and parliamentarians.

The National Assembly Chairwoman thanked Ms. Tulia Ackson for her good feelings and active support for the country and the Vietnamese National Assembly, contributing to promoting the Vietnam-IPU cooperation relationship.

Affirming that the Vietnamese National Assembly always supports the role of the IPU and multilateralism, the National Assembly Chairman reiterated Vietnam's outstanding contributions, especially hosting many important conferences in recent times, and asked the IPU President to support Vietnam in hosting IPU events in the future, further promoting Vietnam-IPU cooperation, actively implementing the IPU Action Strategy for the 2022-2026 period, focusing on innovation and digital transformation, supporting the Vietnamese National Assembly in policy advice, promoting and monitoring the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

As President of the Tanzanian Parliament, IPU President Tulia Ackson hopes that the Tanzanian Parliament and the Vietnamese National Assembly will strengthen cooperation in the coming time, especially increasing contacts and delegation exchanges between professional agencies of the two legislative bodies, between parliamentarians, as well as sharing legislative experiences between the two countries.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man thanked and asked Ms. Tulia Ackson, in her capacity as President of the Tanzanian National Assembly, to continue actively promoting Vietnam-Tanzania cooperation and support Vietnam's participation in events and activities of the African Union.

The two sides agreed to closely coordinate to further promote Vietnam-IPU cooperation in the coming time.

On this occasion, the IPU President respectfully invited National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to attend the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in July 2025.

On the afternoon of April 6 local time, within the framework of attending the 150th IPU General Assembly, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong.

At the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his pleasure to meet again with IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong, a close friend of the Vietnamese National Assembly; thanked Mr. Chungong for his affection and support for the country, people and National Assembly of Vietnam, contributing to promoting the Vietnam-IPU cooperation relationship.

IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong expressed his deep affection for Vietnam; especially thanked the Vietnamese National Assembly for always accompanying the IPU in successfully implementing programs, strategies and priority activities, especially the hosting of the 132nd IPU General Assembly in 2015 with the historic Hanoi Declaration, helping the IPU become the first international organization to mention the Sustainable Development Goals and the 9th Global Meeting of Young Parliamentarians in 2023 with the Declaration on “The role of youth in promoting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals through digital transformation and innovation,” which notably affirmed the role of culture as a driving force for sustainable development, committed to protecting and promoting cultural diversity, emphasizing the role of culture and cultural diversity in the process of solving challenges facing humanity today.

The IPU Secretary General expressed his admiration for the achievements of the country and the Vietnamese National Assembly, and highly appreciated Vietnam's proposals for the activities of the IPU and multilateral inter-parliamentary cooperation in general.

Secretary General Martin Chungong affirmed to continue to support and assist the Vietnamese National Assembly in building multilateral parliamentary diplomacy capacity, applying science and technology in its work, as well as continuing to play an increasingly active role and contribute to the IPU. He thanked and appreciated Vietnam's readiness to host important IPU activities in the future.

The two sides agreed to closely coordinate and further promote the Vietnam-IPU cooperation relationship in the coming time.

On this occasion, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man respectfully invited the IPU Secretary General to visit Vietnam again in the near future and Mr. Martin Chungong happily accepted./.
