The National Assembly held an extraordinary meeting on the morning of March 21 to decide on personnel matters.

Late in the afternoon of March 20, Secretary General of the National Assembly Bui Van Cuong issued a statement on the agenda of the 6th extraordinary session of the 15th National Assembly on the morning of March 21.

Accordingly, based on the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Law on Organization of the National Assembly No. 57/2014/QH13, which has been amended and supplemented by a number of articles under Law No. 65/2020/QH14, the Rules of the National Assembly session issued together with Resolution No. 71/2022/QH15 dated November 15, 2022 of the National Assembly, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly decided to convene the 6th extraordinary session of the 15th National Assembly to consider and decide on personnel work under the authority of the National Assembly.

The 6th extraordinary session of the 15th National Assembly will take place on the morning of March 21, 2024 at the National Assembly House, Hanoi.

On the afternoon of March 20, the 13th Party Central Committee met to consider and give opinions on the removal of positions and retirement of Mr. Vo Van Thuong, Politburo member, member of the 13th Party Central Committee, President, Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council for the 2021-2026 term.

At the same time, consider disciplining Ms. Hoang Thi Thuy Lan, member of the 13th Party Central Committee, former Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairwoman of the People's Council of Vinh Phuc province.

Specifically, Mr. Vo Van Thuong is a key leader of the Party and State, receiving basic training, growing from the grassroots, and assigned to hold many important leadership positions of the Party and State.

However, according to the recent report of the Central Inspection Committee and the authorities, he violated the Regulations on what party members are not allowed to do, the Regulations on the exemplary responsibility of cadres and party members, first of all, members of the Politburo, members of the Secretariat, members of the Central Executive Committee of the Party and is responsible as a leader according to the Party's regulations and the State's laws.

The violations and shortcomings of Mr. Vo Van Thuong have caused bad public opinion, affecting the reputation of the Party, the State and him personally.

Fully aware of his responsibility to the Party, State and People, Mr. Vo Van Thuong submitted a request to resign from his assigned positions and retire.

Pursuant to current regulations of the Party and State and considering the wishes of Mr. Vo Van Thuong, the Party Central Committee agreed to let Mr. Vo Van Thuong cease to hold the positions of: Member of the Politburo, Member of the 13th Party Central Committee, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council for the 2021-2026 term.

Ms. Hoang Thi Thuy Lan, member of the 13th Party Central Committee, former Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairwoman of the People's Council of Vinh Phuc province, has degraded in political ideology, morality, and lifestyle.

Ms. Lan also seriously violated Party regulations and State laws in performing assigned duties and tasks, violating the Regulations on what Party members are not allowed to do and the responsibility to set an example.

Negativity, bribery, causing very serious consequences, public outrage, very bad influence on the reputation of the Party organization and local government.

Based on the content, nature, level, consequences, and causes of the violation; implementing the Party's Regulations on disciplining Party organizations and violating Party members, the Party Central Committee decided to discipline Ms. Hoang Thi Thuy Lan by expelling her from the Party.

The Party Central Committee assigned the Politburo to direct relevant agencies to implement procedures according to regulations .
