Iceland has been ranked as the world's safest country for expats, according to a new report from immigration expert William Russell. Notably, the top five countries on the list are all located in Europe and Oceania. This choice is not surprising, as Iceland has always been known for its high level of safety for residents and visitors.

Iceland – A safe haven in Northern Europe

Praised for its extremely low crime rate, high life expectancy and air quality that exceeds WHO standards, Iceland has been officially named the world's safest country for expats to move to.

According to William Russell, the average life expectancy in Iceland is 82.6 years, higher than the European Union average of 80.9 years. The health system here is considered to be accessible, with a very low rate of people not receiving timely medical care. Although Iceland is exposed to the risk of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, these phenomena rarely pose a serious threat to the population.

Ireland – Stable economy, open society

Ireland has taken second place in the rankings thanks to its strong economy, open immigration policies and an impressive life expectancy of 82.2 years. However, William Russell warns that one of the major challenges for expats here is the lack of affordable housing.

Austria – Strong legal system, impressive railways

Austria currently ranks third in the rankings thanks to its low crime rate and strong legal system. The country's healthcare system is almost universal, making it easily accessible to everyone.

In addition, Austria also owns a railway network stretching over 6,100 km, facilitating travel. However, the country's biggest weakness is its dependence on oil from Russia, which poses many risks in the current unstable geopolitical context.

New Zealand – Peaceful and friendly, but facing climate change

New Zealand ranks fourth on the list of the world's safest countries, known for its extremely low crime rate, universal health care system and friendly people.

However, the country is facing major challenges from rising sea levels and the risk of flooding in coastal areas, which is causing concern for both residents and tourists.

Singapore – Efficient Infrastructure, Strict Laws

Singapore ranks fifth, with its modern infrastructure, good air quality and low crime rates. However, William Russell warns that safety is largely due to the country's strict legal system, and that foreigners should do their research before settling down, as even acts such as running a red light or littering can result in heavy fines.

Although the quality of healthcare in Singapore is very high, it is not free, so experts recommend that foreigners should purchase comprehensive health insurance before moving.
