Quang Tri province has just agreed to accept the C-119 aircraft, serial number 53-7850, to display as an artifact at the Ta Con Airport relic site (Huong Hoa district). The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism was assigned to advise the province to mobilize funding to receive the aircraft.

Having a large aircraft like the C-119 will increase the number of artifacts, creating a true military airport space in Ta Con. “The C-119 will help vividly recreate the historical space and enrich the large-scale artifacts at the Ta Con Airport relic,” said Mr. Nguyen Quang Chuc, Director of the Center for Monuments and Museum Management.

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, during the war, the C-119 aircraft was upgraded from a transport aircraft to a reconnaissance aircraft, participating in combat on the Truong Son - Ho Chi Minh trail, including the Quang Tri battlefield.

In 2016, this aircraft was provided by the Ministry of National Defense to Quang Tri province, and at the same time, the Air Defense - Air Force Command also decided to decommission this aircraft.

This is a valuable historical exhibit, increasingly rare, especially in the context of Quang Tri province moving towards building a war relics museum in the 2026 - 2030 period. Currently, the aircraft is preserved in Ho Chi Minh City. The cost of repairing, dismantling, transporting and installing the C-119 aircraft to Ta Con airport is estimated at nearly 3.5 billion VND.

Since 2016, Quang Tri province has had a contract with Factory A41 to bring this aircraft back as an artifact. However, due to budget constraints, the implementation of the contract has been delayed many times. However, due to the historical value of this aircraft, the province is determined to find every way to bring this aircraft back to display locally.

Currently, due to changes in the use and management of donation money, the Quang Tri Provincial Museum and Monument Management Center has proposed using this money to fund the restoration and relocation of the C-119 aircraft to Quang Tri. The province is currently completing the procedures to bring the aircraft back for display.

Currently, the Ta Con Airport relic has a C-130 aircraft with serial number 532 handed over by Factory A41 of the Air Defense - Air Force in 2012. This aircraft fought in the Khe Sanh - Ta Con battlefield nearly 60 years ago.
