Quang Su talks for the first time about his 10-year marriage and Hong Diem's no-sex-scene rule

Quang Su has been married for 10 years and his current wife respects his work. However, he still maintains his stance of not acting in sensitive scenes on TV for his own reasons.

Respecting Hong Diem's "no hot scenes" principle

- Hong Diem shared that when watching "Gia dinh vui bat thuc luc" she was impressed with Quang Su and wanted to act with him. She also said that Quang Su should have been famous a long time ago. Have you ever thought about this?

If Ms. Diem said that, she must have seen something in me to collaborate with. It was a coincidence that we were able to work together on this project. As for Ms. Diem's comment, my point of view is a little different. From the beginning, I always had the view that I had to work first and experience the fates of the characters. Maybe many people also feel sorry for me because the name Quang Su has not really exploded, but the characteristics in Vietnam are a little different from other countries when the tastes and audience of the two regions are different. Therefore, many artists in the South are not well known to the Northern audience and vice versa.

After a long time working in the South, I feel that the audience in the North has recognized me more widely after the movie Gia Dinh Vui Bat Sudden. I think that wherever there is a good script, a suitable project and a loving audience, I will do it.

Up to now, if anyone has followed Quang Su, they will know that I am a quiet person and not too noisy. The important thing is that I still work and am recognized by the audience. Maybe my name is not too famous, but people still remember Quang Su's roles. I don't think that actors need to have a time but need to work for a long time. I want to be like the previous generation of uncles and aunts, who can still act in movies when they are 60-70 years old.

Recently, I have also been more open and more willing to interact on social networks. I cannot be conservative forever if it is positive.

Quang Su and Hong Diem play husband and wife in "Heart Rescue Station".

- Many viewers wondered about the photo he shared with a woman on his personal page marking his 10-year journey a few months ago. So can we understand that Quang Su has opened up about his private life?

I have rarely talked about my personal love life. That is my other half, the person who has accompanied Quang Su for more than 10 years and has been with me through difficult times to certain successes. At that time, I was in Hanoi and wanted to keep a little memory. I would like to reveal that it is a photo of our 10th wedding anniversary. This is the first time I have shared this information with the press.

- Did the fact that Quang Su was married have much influence on your decision not to act in hot scenes on TV dramas as Hong Diem shared at the press conference to launch "Heart Rescue Station"?

Regarding my career, my wife respects me very much. This principle is entirely my own. Regarding the sentence "no hot scenes in movies", I would like to make a slight correction. Movies in theaters and TV series have different audiences. Movie audiences have very clear age classifications, so in the movies De Mai Tinh or Chung Cu Ma Toi, there are still sensitive scenes, but with TV series, the audience is more diverse, in which I pay special attention to children.

I remember in 2016, I played a villain on a TV series. My nephew was only 4 years old at that time and loved Quang Su very much, but one time when he went to his house to play, he threw something at me and asked why I was a bad person.

The children are still young and do not know what is a movie and what is real life, while the habit of watching movies with the family is sometimes difficult to control. From then on, I have limited myself from playing villain roles and especially sensitive scenes that expose skin on TV dramas. But I am more comfortable than Ms. Diem and do not avoid kissing scenes. As for movies, if the scene is really worth it and necessary for the character and the story, I will still do it.

- For an amateur actor like Hong Diem, the above rule is understandable, but honestly, for a professional actor like Quang Su, does he ever feel uncomfortable interacting with a female co-star who always says no to intimate scenes like that?

During the film production process, there are always tricks to deceive the audience's vision, but necessary scenes still have to be done. However, I respect my co-star's professional principles because Ms. Diem has her reasons. I also have to talk to understand my co-star better. I asked Ms. Diem: "I'm asking for real, tell me what your limits are, otherwise I'm afraid of making you sad." Really, I feel the interaction and support from Ms. Diem.

Quang respects Hong Diem's choice.

- So in this movie, it's like "Unexpected Happy Family", in the movie Diem is Quang Su's wife and in real life she is the older sister, so she will continue to be "sister wife", right?

Sister Diem is 1 year older than me so of course she has to call me sister behind the scenes. Recently I also had the chance to act with both of them.

Audiences condemn characters, not confuse characters with actors.

- You said you limit playing villain roles, but with the unaired clips of "Heart Rescue Station", can you see that your character Nghia will be a hateful person in the future?

My concept of a villain is a bad character with no motive, no reason, no inner self, so it is often limited to accepting. The character Nghia according to the released excerpt of the film will be revealed soon. But I am sure that Nghia must have a reason to become so sinister. That is one of the reasons I accepted this role.

Furthermore, I want my close-up roles to have different colors, I don't want to repeat a certain image. Cong and Nghia are different in appearance, personality, and have complex psychology and inner feelings. I hope the audience is patient enough to watch the film to see why Nghia changes like that. In my opinion, Nghia is more pitiful than hateful, everyone will gradually understand later.

- Surely there will be many viewers who hate Nghia, can you predict the viewers' reactions?

I predicted and knew for sure that I would be hated, but I hope the audience will condemn the character when Nghia deserves it and not confuse the character with the actor.

- The effort to build up the audience's affection through the role of Cong Cay is now at risk of being damaged because of Nghia...

I remember that at first Cong was also criticized a lot, but then the audience turned around. Nghia is also a character like that. When people know the reason for his actions, they will understand and sympathize. I believe that no one is perfect, there is definitely both good and evil, depending on the environment and time, the good or evil will rise up.

- Luong Thu Trang said that in the movie, Nghia and An Nhien will definitely be hated, and at the same time, she and Quang Su both agreed that they would be criticized anyway, so they just acted well and did their jobs well, so they weren't afraid of public opinion?

Once you accept a role, you must be responsible for the common work. Films are also a highly collective product and actors have the responsibility to portray the character well. Therefore, if you accept a role, you must do your job thoroughly, in order to make the character most harmonious.

I can't not do it just because the character is too hateful, that will affect the whole movie. Sometimes I still encourage Trang: "Come on, it's okay for the audience to criticize a role like that, we'll try our best to do it. Don't worry, in the previous movie, it was just me, but if you get criticized for this movie, I'll take the blame too."
