Authorities in Quang Ninh province have penalized more than 30 cases of violations related to illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, paying the state budget more than VND700 million.

Information from Quang Ninh Provincial Police on November 10 said that at around 8:00 p.m. on November 8, 2024, the Waterway Police Team of the Traffic Police - Order Team, Cam Pha City Police, conducted a patrol to ensure security and order, and protect aquatic resources in the area and discovered a number of cases of storing prohibited fishing gear for aquatic exploitation.
Among them are Vu Van Tuan (born in 1982), Nguyen Van Bay (born in 1991), both residing in Tan An ward (Quang Yen town, Quang Ninh); Nguyen Dang Cuong (born in 1985), residing in Phong Hai ward (Quang Yen town, Quang Ninh) and Nguyen Sy Doan (born in 1976, residing in Thuy Nguyen district, Hai Phong) who are storing fishing gear prohibited from exploitation of aquatic resources according to Clause 3, Article 27 of Decree 38/2024/ND-CP.
According to the confessions of the fishing boat owners, all of these fishing boats were in Ha Long. They had information that there were many clams in the Cam Pha sea area, so they went down to rake for profit. When they reached the Cam Son water surface, they were discovered by the authorities.
The Waterway Police Team handed over all vehicles, exhibits and documents related to the violation to the Economic Department of Cam Pha City People's Committee for handling according to regulations.
According to Quang Ninh Police, this is just one of more than 30 violations related to illegal, unreported and unregulated IUU fishing from April 2024 to present, with a fine amount paid to the state budget of more than 700 million VND.
