Quang Ngai trains and teaches the art of Bai Choi performance

VHO - On the morning of October 28, the Quang Ngai Provincial Center for Culture and Arts held the opening ceremony of a training course on performing the art of Bai Choi. Nearly 60 students from units and clubs of folk songs and Bai Choi in localities in the province participated in the training.

In his opening speech, Director of the Quang Ngai Provincial Culture and Arts Center Tran Nhu Tuan said that on December 7, 2017, the 12th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) 2003 agreed to register the dossier "The art of Bài Chòi in Central Vietnam" as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity. This is a great honor but at the same time, it is the responsibility of all levels, sectors and people in preserving and promoting the Bài Chòi art of the Central region in general and Quang Ngai province in particular.

“With the teaching experience of Meritorious Artist Tran Tam, students will have a deeper understanding of performing arts, gradually mastering how to organize folk bai choi festivals, performance methods, and skills in calling and singing folk songs and bai choi. Contributing to the successful implementation of the Project on Preserving and Promoting Bai Choi Art in the province, period 2023 - 2025, orientation to 2030", Mr. Tuan emphasized.

During the 15-day period, from October 28 to November 15, students from the Provincial Military Command, the Provincial Museum, the Provincial Folk Song - Bài chòi Club, Quang Ngai City, Duc Pho Town, Binh Son District, Son Tinh District, Tu Nghia District and Mo Duc District will gradually be exposed to the folk songs of Zone V and Bài chòi.

In particular, students will be guided by the excellent artist Tran Tam to approach the ancient Bài Chòi, a unique form of folk performance in the Bài Chòi Association. At the same time, it will help the grassroots cultural work team and those who love Bài Chòi to learn, approach, and practice the performance method and the way to organize the folk Bài Chòi Association.

Skills in calling and singing Bai Choi melodies to develop this art form in the province and create a healthy and useful playground for all ages during holidays and Tet.
