Quang Ngai closes and removes self-opened paths across the North-South railway to ensure traffic safety

(PLVN) - Quang Ngai province is vigorously implementing a campaign to close and remove spontaneous crossings across the North-South railway - a potential cause of many traffic accident risks. It is expected that in April, the locality will handle 8 more spontaneous crossings, reducing the number to about 30 dangerous spots across the province.

In early April 2025, functional forces including Railway Traffic Police Team No. 2 (Traffic Police Department, Ministry of Public Security), Railway Safety Management Department II (Vietnam Railway Authority), Nghia Binh Railway Joint Stock Company and the government of Duc Pho town (Quang Ngai) organized a campaign to close and remove self-opened paths across the North-South railway line.

According to statistics, in Quang Ngai province, there are still 38 self-opened paths across the railway - intersections without barriers or warning signals, causing serious traffic safety problems. In Duc Pho town alone, the section from Km976+00 to Km998+500 recorded 21 self-opened paths, many of which are located in residential areas, have steep slopes, and are obscured by houses or dense trees.

Authorities mobilized to clear the self-made path in Duc Pho town.

Mr. Tran Ba, Deputy Head of Technical - Safety Department, Nghia Binh Railway Joint Stock Company, said that the unit has proposed that local authorities close these passages soon to ensure train safety and minimize accidents.

Typically, the passages at Km991+500 and Km993+380 in Tan Loc village (Pho Chau commune, Duc Pho town) are two of the points that were handled early due to the high level of danger. In the first quarter and early April, the locality has eliminated 6 self-made passages and is continuing to close 8 more this month.

Lieutenant Colonel Tran Hai Hoang, Deputy Head of Railway Traffic Police Team No. 2, said that the local authorities are closely coordinating with the railway industry to handle the spontaneous crossings according to plan. It is expected that by the end of April, the whole province will reduce to about 30 spontaneous crossings, moving towards the goal of ensuring a safe corridor for the vital North-South railway line.

Removing spontaneous crossings is not only a technical solution but also requires consensus and cooperation from local people. Authorities also recommend that people move at legal intersections to ensure safety for themselves and the community.
