The Son Tra hydropower project has been embroiled in scandals involving the burial of dozens of high-voltage electricity pylons without land being allocated.
On October 21, Giao Thong Newspaper reported that Vice Chairman of Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee Tran Hoang Tuan signed a decision to send officials and civil servants to inspect the waste treatment facility at Son Tra 1 Hydropower Plant.
Son Tra Hydropower Plant is located in Son Lap commune, Son Tay district, Quang Ngai.
The working delegation includes officials from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the Department of Environmental Protection, and the People's Committees of Son Ha and Son Tay districts.
The mission of the working group is to inspect the actual construction and installation of environmental protection works by Dat Phuong Son Tra Hydropower Joint Stock Company during the trial operation; measure and take samples to analyze waste discharged into the environment.
The decision clearly states that civil servants and representatives of units are responsible before the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and the law for the inspection results.
Previously, on September 5, the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province granted Dat Phuong Son Tra Hydropower Joint Stock Company permission to carry out environmental protection activities under license number 59.
It is known that Son Tra 1 hydropower project was built in 2015 and put into operation to produce and trade electricity in 2019.
As reported by Giao Thong Newspaper, the investor of Son Tra Hydropower Plant, Dat Phuong Son Tra Hydropower Joint Stock Company, buried 64 high-voltage electricity poles across Son Ha and Son Tay districts along with the 110kV power line system. It has been in operation for many years but the State has not yet recovered the land, changed the land use purpose, or allocated land for lease.
At the same time, all 64 pier foundations that have been built are not included in the local land use planning, not included in the energy land planning...
