Quang Ngai needs to revive the 'Sa Huynh brand' to develop tourism

If we can revive the "Sa Huynh brand" to connect all economic sectors of Quang Ngai such as industry - agriculture - fishery - forestry - salt industry to develop tourism in the direction of ecological culture, Quang Ngai tourism will reach a new peak.

On the afternoon of April 25, the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province held a workshop on "Developing agricultural tourism and community tourism in Quang Ngai province - opportunities and prospects".

Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai province, said that currently, attracting investment in the tourism sector of the province is still limited, and has not implemented dynamic tourism projects that contribute to promoting tourism development and attracting other projects.

In recent times, local tourism has focused on three main product lines including sea and island tourism, cultural tourism and eco-tourism. "However, the quality of tourism services has not met the increasing demand of tourists, tourism products are still poor, strong products are still in the potential form, not fully exploiting the inherent resources. This is the subjective and main reason leading to the slow development of tourism in the province," Mr. Dung assessed.

Sharing at the workshop, Associate Professor Dr. Vo Van Minh, Principal of the University of Education (University of Danang) gave some suggestions for tourism development in Quang Ngai province. Accordingly, Quang Ngai has "Sa Huynh" - 1 of 3 ancient cultures in Vietnam, still has traces of ancient space as well as wide connectivity with cultures in the world.

"If we revive the Sa Huynh "brand" to connect all economic sectors of Quang Ngai such as industry - agriculture - fishery - forestry - salt industry to develop tourism in the direction of ecological culture, Quang Ngai tourism will reach a new peak and approach a new level of civilization. Quang Ngai tourism should create a destination, a place to connect and exchange between cultures for a brighter future for Quang Ngai", Associate Professor, Dr. Vo Van Minh shared.

Dr. Chu Manh Trinh, conservation expert of Cu Lao Cham Marine Reserve (Quang Nam), said that agricultural,rural and community tourism in Quang Ngai have been and are being formed vividly in localities, with the participation of people, authorities and active support and sharing from external forces.

Community tourism is closely linked to community development, demonstrating resource connectivity and creating development momentum. Most of Quang Ngai’s community tourism destinations from Binh Son, Tinh Khe, Mo Duc, Nghia Hanh, and Duc Pho reflect this connection.

The community tourism network from Cu Lao Cham, Cam Thanh, Cam Kim (Hoi An) to Hoa Bac (Da Nang) and spreading to Binh Son, Mo Duc, Nghia Hanh, Sa Huynh (Quang Ngai) and vice versa has been actively and effectively promoting the role of connecting, sharing, converging many quintessence, experiences, and creativity from people and communities for building and developing local capacity, community livelihoods and socio-economy.

This network needs to be promoted to develop internal strength and spread to provinces and cities across the country, from high mountains to the sea, out to sea, for a green economy, conservation economy, circular economy, and sustainable knowledge.

"However, how and what resources are connected depends on each locality. Currently, Binh Thanh has only developed resources individually, mainly based on people, experience and traditional skills, or fruit gardens. Or Binh Son and Tinh Khe have only relied on natural resources. Conservation of natural resources, culture, and environmental protection need special attention in conjunction with the construction and development of community tourism in the locality," said Dr. Chu Manh Trinh.

At the workshop, Mr. Tran Hoang Tuan, Vice Chairman of Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee requested the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and related localities to fully absorb the opinions and proposals at the workshop, thereby proactively implementing solutions. At the same time, promote and replicate successful models and experiences in practice, organize the implementation of the task of developing agricultural tourism and community tourism in the coming time.

"It is necessary to focus on developing and exploiting the tourist market segment according to the products that Quang Ngai has strengths in such as: Island tourism, agricultural tourism, community tourism, cultural and historical tourism. In particular, research and prioritize resources, increase support for agricultural tourism and community tourism spots. Strive for each locality to form tourist spots that meet OCOP standards," Quang Ngai province leaders suggested.
