Quang Nam province is seeking approval to establish two towns in a mountainous district.

On December 5th, during the second working day of the 28th session of the 10th term of the Quang Nam Provincial People's Council, Ms. Tran Thi Kim Hoa, Director of the Provincial Department of Internal Affairs, representing the Provincial People's Committee, presented a proposal to approve the Resolution endorsing the establishment of Tak Po town and Atieng town.

According to this report, the Urban Development Program of Quang Nam province for the period of 2020, with a vision to 2030 in Decision No. 1367/QD-UBND dated April 17, 2015 of the Provincial People's Committee and the planning of Quang Nam province for the period of 2021 - 2030 with a vision to 2050 in Decision No. 72/QD-TTg dated January 17, 2024 of the Prime Minister have determined the goal of Quang Nam having 23 towns by 2025, including Tak Po town, Nam Tra My district, Quang Nam province. However, up to now, Nam Tra My district has not yet formed an urban district.

Tak Po town is expected to be established with 4 villages, with a natural land area of 103.09 ^km2 and a total urban population of 4,523 people. Regarding the evaluation criteria, Tak Po town meets the standards of population size, natural area, type V urban area, socio -economic development structure and level, including budget revenue and expenditure balance, multidimensional poverty rate, and non-agricultural labor rate.

HOP 2 — *A corner of Nam Tra My District Administrative Center.*

Regarding the establishment of Atiêng town in Tây Giang district, Quảng Nam province, on July 2, 2010, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 2117/QD-UBND approving the adjustment and expansion of the general construction plan and promulgating the Regulations on the management of the Tây Giang District Administrative Center.

To date, Atiêng commune has been assessed and recognized as meeting the criteria for a type V urban area, ensuring the standards for establishing a town, with a population of over 4,000 people, a total area of nearly 60 ^km² , ensuring budget balance, and a poverty rate of approximately 36.8%.

Thus, when the resolution is passed, Quang Nam will not change its natural area, population size and the number of administrative units at district and commune levels. Of which, the commune level will increase by 2 towns and decrease by 2 communes. Quang Nam will have 17 district-level administrative units, including 14 districts, 1 town and 2 cities; 233 commune-level administrative units, including 188 communes, 29 wards and 16 towns.
