On December 5th, during the second working day of the 28th session of the 10th term of the Quang Nam Provincial People's Council, Ms. Tran Thi Kim Hoa, Director of the Provincial Department of Internal Affairs, representing the Provincial People's Committee, presented a proposal to approve the Resolution endorsing the establishment of Tak Po town and Atieng town.

According to this report, the Quang Nam Provincial Urban Development Program for the period 2020, with a vision to 2030, as stipulated in Decision No. 1367/QD-UBND dated April 17, 2015, of the Provincial People's Committee, and the Quang Nam Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, as stipulated in Decision No. 72/QD-TTg dated January 17, 2024, of the Prime Minister , have identified the goal of having 23 towns in Quang Nam by 2025, including Tak Po town in Nam Tra My district, Quang Nam province. However, to date, Nam Tra My district has not yet formed a district capital.
The planned Tak Pỏ town will comprise four villages, with a natural land area of 103.09 km² and a total urban population of 4,523 people. In terms of evaluation criteria, Tak Pỏ town meets the standards for population size, natural area, urban status (Type V), and socio -economic development structure and level, including budget balance, multidimensional poverty rate, and non-agricultural labor force ratio.

Regarding the establishment of Atiêng town in Tây Giang district, Quảng Nam province, on July 2, 2010, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 2117/QD-UBND approving the adjustment and expansion of the general construction plan and promulgating the Regulations on the management of the Tây Giang District Administrative Center.
To date, Atiêng commune has been assessed and recognized as meeting the criteria for a type V urban area, ensuring the standards for establishing a town, with a population of over 4,000 people, a total area of nearly 60 km² , ensuring budget balance, and a poverty rate of approximately 36.8%.
Thus, upon passing the resolution, Quang Nam province will not change its natural area, population size, or the number of subordinate district and commune-level administrative units. Specifically, the number of communes will increase by 2 towns and decrease by 2. Quang Nam will have 17 district-level administrative units, including 14 districts, 1 town, and 2 cities; and 233 commune-level administrative units, including 188 communes, 29 wards, and 16 towns.
