Quang Nam: Nearly 1,000 households join the self-management team for border lines and national border markers

The Quang Nam Provincial Military Command presented gifts to the people of villages in Ka Lum district, Sekong province, Laos.

Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee has just reported on the 10-year implementation of Directive No. 01/CT-TTg dated January 9, 2015 of the Prime Minister "On organizing the movement of the entire people to participate in protecting territorial sovereignty and national border security in the new situation" for the period 2015 - 2025.

Accordingly, Quang Nam province has 2 border lines with a length of 245.572 km, including 163 villages and residential blocks belonging to 30 communes and wards of 8 districts, towns and cities. Of which, the sea and island border line is 88.15 km long; the land border line adjacent to Sekong province/Laos, 157.422 km long, belongs to 2 districts of Nam Giang and Tay Giang, where the Co Tu and Gie Trieng people live.

Implementing Directive No. 01/CT-TTg, border districts, towns and cities coordinated with the Border Guard of Quang Nam province to maintain management of 245.572 km/245.572 km of border (157.422 km of border; 125 km of coastline/88.15 km of border section); established and effectively maintained 72 groups/974 households/1,173 individuals registered for self-management of border lines and national border markers (26 groups/600 households, 39 individuals on the sea route; 46 groups/374 households/1,134 members on the border route/60 national border markers); established 76 groups of united and safe boats/638 boats/3,591 members; 161 teams/2,641 members of self-managed security and order teams (105 teams/1,356 members on the sea route; 56 teams/1,285 members on the border route).

Every month, the government, the Vietnam Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations of border communes and wards coordinate with Border Guard stations to organize activities and assign tasks to border self-management teams, border markers, members of security and order self-management teams and boat teams to unite and ensure safety.

The functional forces have organized 20,841 teams/73,221 officers and soldiers/970 vehicles to patrol, inspect, control, and conduct bilateral patrols to protect border security and sovereignty, the border system, landmarks, sea areas, and islands.

Forces, departments, branches, organizations and localities proactively prepare forces and means, closely coordinate and cooperate with the provincial Border Guard in promptly and effectively responding to and handling incidents, natural disasters and search and rescue.

In addition, the functional forces regularly exchange, grasp the situation, and closely coordinate with the provincial Border Guard to handle 599 cases/1,034 subjects of crimes and other law violations; coordinate with the provincial Police in advising on the location of the Liaison Office for drug prevention and cross-border crime prevention and implementing the clever "Border Shield" model of the provincial Police force in border communes.
