On the afternoon of October 23, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province held an online meeting on response to storm No. 6 (storm Trami).
At the meeting, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue of Quang Nam province said that it had established two evacuation plans in case the storm makes direct landfall in the locality.
Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee held a meeting to discuss plans to prevent and combat storm Trami.
In the strong storm scenario, the province will relocate and evacuate 212,000 people and 396,000 people in the case of a super storm.
In addition, the authorities will organize guard duty, control, and guide to ensure safe traffic for people and vehicles, especially at culverts, spillways, deep flooded areas, fast-flowing water areas, areas where landslides have occurred or are at risk of landslides.
At the same time, arrange forces, materials and means to fix problems and ensure smooth traffic on main traffic routes.
Mr. Truong Xuan Ty, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Nam province, said that with the forecast of very heavy rain during this storm, there will be a risk of localized flooding in urban areas. Therefore, units need to clear sewers and water collection points to increase drainage capacity and avoid deep flooding in urban areas.
According to Mr. Ho Quang Buu, Vice Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee, in the past 3 years the province has not had any major storms, so people are certainly complacent.
Mr. Buu asked localities to actively propagate so that people understand storm prevention to reduce damage when the storm hits. Currently, there are only 2 days left for people and localities to prepare.
The Vice Chairman of the Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee noted that when there is heavy rain, landslides will certainly occur in 9 mountainous districts. Therefore, localities need to check the reserve of food and essential goods in the locality, especially in localities that are easily isolated and cut off by storms and floods.
Concluding the meeting, Mr. Le Van Dung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Nam province, requested that local units must have leaders on duty 24/7 to direct storm prevention and control, and strengthen inspection of "4 on-site" equipment forces.
Ensure smooth communication from province to district, from district to commune to promptly grasp information from local level. Assign the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to consider banning the sea to ensure safety.
Mr. Dung also requested the armed forces to be ready with manpower and means to carry out rescue operations in case of emergency. Deploy shock troops to inspect and review residential areas along rivers, streams, low-lying areas, and areas at high risk of flooding, flash floods, and landslides. At the same time, proactively evacuate people in dangerous areas to safe places.
The Chairman of Quang Nam added that the province will immediately establish working groups to inspect some essential places in coastal and mountainous areas that are likely to be highly damaged by the storm.
