Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee Le Van Dung has just signed a document to send to the Standing Committee and People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to propose renaming administrative units after the rearrangement.
This move came after the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee issued Resolution No. 45-NQ/TU dated April 18, 2025 on the arrangement and merger of Party organizations and administrative units at the commune and provincial levels. According to the approved project, the entire Quang Nam province will reduce the number of commune-level administrative units from 233 to 88, including 76 communes and 12 wards, a reduction of more than 60%.

During the process of collecting voters' opinions in localities, many people expressed their desire to keep the name associated with the tradition, history and culture of their homeland, instead of naming it in numerical order as originally proposed.
In response to the people's wishes, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province requested that localities in the area study the provisions in Article 7 of Resolution 76/2025/UBTVQH15 dated April 14, 2025 of the National Assembly Standing Committee on administrative unit arrangement in 2025. In case there are proposals for names different from the plan in Resolution 45-NQ/TU, localities need to urgently send a report to the Provincial People's Committee before 8:00 a.m. on April 21, 2025 for synthesis and submission to the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee and the Provincial Party Executive Committee for consideration.
As reported by the Vietnam Law Newspaper , on April 18, the Standing Committee of the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee agreed on the plan to name the communes and wards after the merger according to the principle: the name of the district or town followed by the serial number. The goal is to ensure objectivity, avoid name disputes between the old localities and facilitate management.

According to this plan, many districts will name new communes in order such as: Nui Thanh district from 17 communes down to 7, named from Nui Thanh 1 to Nui Thanh 7; Phu Ninh has 3 communes (Phu Ninh 1, 2, 3); Thang Binh has 7 communes; Tien Phuoc, Bac Tra My, Nam Tra My, Que Son, Duy Xuyen, Dien Ban, Dai Loc, Nam Giang, Dong Giang, Tay Giang, Hiep Duc, Phuoc Son... are all reduced to 3-7 communes, and will be numbered similarly.
The two provincial cities, Tam Ky and Hoi An, will have names that are appropriate to their urban characteristics. Tam Ky City will have 4 wards from 12, including: Tam Ky Ward, Tam Ky Bac Ward, Tam Ky Dong Ward and Tam Ky Nam Ward. Hoi An City will have 4 units, including 3 wards: Hoi An Ward, Hoi An Dong Ward, Hoi An Tay Ward and Tam Hiep Commune.
It is expected that the consultation of voters in the whole province on the project will take place on April 19 and 20, 2025. This is considered an important step in the process of streamlining the administrative apparatus, creating favorable conditions to promote socio -economic development, ensure national defense and security and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of state management at the grassroots level.
