Quang Nam - Attapeu signed a memorandum of understanding to establish friendly cooperation relations.

Attending the meeting was Consul General of the Lao PDR in Da Nang City Suphan Khao Dao Huong.

At the meeting, leaders of Quang Nam and Attapeu provinces provided an overview of the socio-economic development situation; introduced the potential, strengths, and international cooperation opportunities of the two localities. Standing Vice Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee Phan Thai Binh said that in recent years, although the two provinces have not signed a memorandum of understanding on establishing cooperative relations, leaders of the two sides have had a number of visits and worked together.

Notably, during the visit of the leaders of the Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee to Attapeu Province in 2022, the two provinces agreed to promote, learn about and sign a memorandum of understanding on establishing a cooperative relationship. This is a premise to open up many new cooperation opportunities between the two sides, contributing to consolidating and tightening the special friendship between the two Parties, the two States and the people of Vietnam and Laos.

“In the past time, the two sides have surveyed, learned and discussed, and reached an agreement to sign a memorandum of understanding to establish a friendly cooperative relationship. This is an important milestone in the cooperative relationship between the two localities, for the stable and sustainable development of the two provinces,” said Mr. Binh.

Deputy Governor of Attapeu Province, Bun-sot Set-thi-lat, said that Attapeu is located in the southern region of Laos, bordering localities of Vietnam and Cambodia. To date, the province has established friendly and cooperative relations with 9 provinces and cities of Vietnam, including Quang Nam.

With its potential and strengths in the fields of agriculture, energy, mining, etc., Attapeu focuses on producing fruits, livestock products, and exploiting minerals for export. In particular, the locality focuses on investing in the road to the Nam Giang - Dac Ta Ooc international border gate pair so that goods from Attapeu and the southern provinces of Laos can be traded internationally.

After discussion, Quang Nam and Attapeu agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding to establish a friendly cooperative relationship from March 25, 2025 to serve as a basis for implementing cooperation contents and programs between the two sides.

At the same time, they agreed to cooperate in various fields to jointly promote the common development of each side on the basis of equality, friendship and mutual benefit, including the fields of foreign politics and delegation exchanges; trade and investment; transportation, import and export of goods; and human resource development.

Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Nam province Le Van Dung said that the signing of the memorandum of understanding to establish friendly cooperation relations marked an important turning point in the development of the relationship between the two provinces of Quang Nam and Attapeu.

This memorandum is not only a recognition of the achievements in the cooperative relationship between the two provinces but also a foundation for the two sides to support and help each other, further promoting the potential and strengths of each side in the future.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation Day of Quang Nam province (March 24, 1975 - March 24, 2025) and the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Provincial Party Committee (March 28, 1930 - March 28, 2025), Deputy Governor of Attapeu province Bun-sot Set-thi-lat sent his best wishes to the Party Committee, government and people of Quang Nam and presented souvenirs to the provincial leaders.
