Quang Binh requests report on Dohwa's suspended project extension

At the regular press conference in July 2024 on the afternoon of July 19 organized by Quang Binh province, a representative of Lao Dong Newspaper asked the Provincial People's Committee about the fact that many projects in the area have been overdue but have been proposed for further extension.

“Typically, recently, the Quang Binh Economic Zone Management Board issued a document requesting an extension of the Quang Binh Energy Pellet Factory Investment Project, of Dohwa Resource Development Company Limited (Dohwa Project). Previously, the Economic Zone Management Board itself issued a document requesting the Provincial People's Committee to approve the termination of this project because it was not in accordance with the Investment Law. However, later, the Quang Binh Economic Zone Management Board issued another document proposing to continue extending the project. So, up to now, what is the Provincial People's Committee's opinion on the above issue?" - a representative of Lao Dong Newspaper asked.

Responding to the above project issue, Vice Chairman of Quang Binh Provincial People's Committee Hoang Xuan Tan said that the main responsibility for extending the project belongs to the Economic Zone Management Board.

“In general, the Provincial People's Committee has received a report from the Economic Zone Management Board on the above project. Considering that there are many different opinions, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee has assigned a Vice Chairman of the province to work with the Economic Zone Management Board to have a more thorough view, then make an official decision,” said Mr. Tan.

Previously, as reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, on February 22, 2024, Deputy Head of Quang Binh Economic Zone Management Board Hoang Dang Anh signed and sent to the Provincial People's Committee a report on the implementation status of the Quang Binh Energy Pellet Factory Investment Project of Dohwa Resource Development Company Limited, stating that the project needs to be considered for termination of operations.

The document clearly states that this project does not fall under the provisions of the Investment Law on adjusting project implementation progress, therefore, the Economic Zone Management Board proposes to terminate the project's operations.

However, strangely, on June 17, 2024, the Quang Binh Economic Zone Management Board sent another document to the Provincial People's Committee regarding the extension for this company until December 2025.
