In November 2021, the Quang Binh Provincial Police Department initiated a case and prosecuted Phan Sinh Thanh (born in 1982, residing in Canh Duong commune, Quang Trach district), the leader of a group of people for "intentionally causing injury" and "extortion".
Mr. Nguyen Huu Tuyen, Chief Justice of the People's Court of Quang Binh province, said that the Phan Sinh Thanh case was brought to trial on June 5. The lawyer requested the panel of judges to temporarily suspend the trial and transfer the case file to the Criminal Investigation Department of the Supreme People's Procuracy to investigate the crime of bribery brokerage.
Accordingly, when the trial took place, Phan Sinh Thanh filed a complaint accusing Mr. Nguyen Duc Thuan of receiving 2.7 billion VND from Thanh's wife to fix the case.
According to defendant Thanh, when his detention period ended and he was released on bail, Thanh contacted Mr. Thuan, who told him to give the prosecutor in charge of the case, H.D.T, 880 million VND, and bribe many people with the rest. Mr. Thuan asked Thanh to give him an additional 660 million VND to get a lighter sentence.
Talking with Mr. Nguyen Tien Hung, Director of the People's Procuracy of Quang Binh province, Mr. Hung informed that the Criminal Investigation Department of the Supreme People's Procuracy is investigating the complaint of defendant Phan Sinh Thanh. The leader of the People's Procuracy of Quang Binh province also asked prosecutor H.D.T. to report and Mr. H.D.T. affirmed that he did not receive bribes. According to Mr. Hung, we must wait for the investigation results from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Supreme People's Procuracy to be clear.
