On September 24, the People's Committee of Quang Binh province issued a decision to declare an emergency situation regarding natural disasters and landslides in residential group 8, Quy Dat town, Minh Hoa district.
Accordingly, the Cay Suong hill area (also known as Ong Dan hill) behind the residential area of residential group 8, Quy Dat town has very steep terrain, complex geology, the height from the natural ground of the houses to the top of the hill is about 65 - 70m.
In recent years, due to rains and floods, cracks and subsidence have appeared in this area. In particular, from September 18 to 21, due to the impact of storm No. 4, a number of landslides appeared here, the cracks forming a landslide and subsidence arc, with a total length of about 200m.
In some locations, there are signs of landslides 5-10m behind houses, and in some locations, they are close to the walls of houses.
According to forecasts, the coming time is the peak of the flood season in Quang Binh province, so landslides are very likely to occur, directly affecting households and causing great damage to people and property.
To ensure the safety of people's lives and property, the People's Committee of Quang Binh province requested the People's Committee of Minh Hoa district and related units to urgently evacuate all 40 households at the foot of Cay Suong hill to a safe place.
Ensure food and essential supplies for people at evacuation points. Closely monitor weather, rain, floods, and landslides, and prepare forces and means to respond in case of landslides.
Put up danger warning signs, arrange permanent forces to warn and guide people and vehicles to ensure safety. Increase information and communication so that people know about the risk of landslides and damage to structures, and proactively take response measures. ...
It is known that in just the past few days, the government of Quy Dat town, Minh Hoa district has twice evacuated 40 households with 200 people in residential group 8, Quy Dat town to avoid the risk of landslides.
“Yesterday, there was heavy rain in the area, so we mobilized people to evacuate. By this afternoon, the rain had stopped, and people were temporarily allowed to return home. In the coming days, the locality will continue to monitor the development of the flood to mobilize people to continue evacuating when necessary,” said Mr. Tran Dinh Nghia, Vice Chairman of Quy Dat Town People's Committee.
