Immediately, Hung Thuan created the perfect team including himself, Le Anh Nuoi (@le_anh_nuoi), Doctor Cung (@bacsicungungbuou), Miss Le Hoang Phuong (@hoangphuongofficial), Runner-up Hoang Nhung (@ahauhoangnhung) - each person came from a certain field but all chose to try and decide to pursue a long-term livestream career. The group divided into 2 groups, 2 directions to ask about the house of lantern artisan Nguyen Trong Binh and the artisan's workshop in Ho Chi Minh City.

Mr. Binh's family has a tradition of making lanterns for 3 generations with more than 50 years of experience. In 1990, there were many new and more attractive toys for children on the market. Therefore, after a while, he switched to another job to make a living. Then Mr. Binh got married, his mother got sick, so he had time at home, so he returned to his profession. At the same time, Mr. Binh met cultural researcher Trinh Bach, the two of them decided to combine restoring old lantern models and creating new ones.
Currently, Mr. Binh's lantern workshop has 8 family members continuing the family tradition. Together with the craftsmen, the workshop makes about 100 - 200 simple lanterns every day. For more advanced and sophisticated lanterns, the production time can last up to 10 days, even 2 weeks because everything is handmade.
Artisan Nguyen Trong Binh said that traditional lanterns using candles always bring emotions, showing an unforgettable cultural beauty of the Vietnamese people. Therefore, traditional lanterns are always a favorite item for children as well as those interested in cultural and artistic values. However, to make a traditional lantern, the craftsman must go through many stages: from selecting bamboo, drying, splitting bamboo, then building the frame to coloring, drawing patterns, dotting, and creating funny shapes.

In addition, Mr. Binh revealed that many of his products have been shipped to many provinces and cities in the country as well as abroad. “In recent years, in neighboring countries, specifically schools with many international students, they often order beautiful lanterns to organize during the Mid-Autumn Festival there. Secondly, many foreign restaurants come here to order decorative items. Some countries include Canada, Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia,…” - Mr. Binh said.
Artisan Nguyen Trong Binh proudly said: "Until today, I am very proud that my handmade lanterns have reached the world."
After listening to artisan Nguyen Trong Binh share about the lantern making profession, Miss Le Hoang Phuong was very excited and expressed her admiration for the artisan: "To be able to keep the fire burning until now, it is necessary to have love, understanding, and beyond material value, to have the courage to preserve this profession."
The first livestream dedicated to handmade products
During the research process, artisan Nguyen Trong Binh guided the group to try making lanterns. Encountering an unexpected situation, actor Hung Thuan accidentally broke a lantern, he expressed regret and worry because he felt sorry for the craftsman's efforts. Immediately after that, Mr. Binh quickly reassured and guided the group on how to fix it. These practical experiences opened up new perspectives for both the creators and the audience, so that everyone could better understand the meticulousness, meticulousness and heart of the artisans making traditional handicraft products.
Discussing with artisan Nguyen Trong Binh about the potential of bringing handmade products such as lanterns to the online market instead of just selling them in the traditional market, actor Hung Thuan suggested ways to make lantern products more interesting to consumers, such as producing product components for children to assemble into products themselves.
However, when the group met to discuss the topic assigned by the Organizing Committee, Hung Thuan wondered: Is it feasible to bring artisan Nguyen Trong Binh's products online for sale via Livestream?
Le Anh Nuoi said that many things were difficult. First, artisan Binh was new to the TikTok Shop platform. Second, the lanterns were made of bamboo, tied together with steel bars, and were cumbersome to transport, easily dented, and damaged. In addition, because the lanterns were handmade products, it took time to repair and send them back to customers. "Selling a product for a small profit but having to pay compensation is very easy to lose money" - Le Anh Nuoi said.
The problem of putting lanterns on livestream is still unsolved |
Doctor Cung also objected, because not only is it difficult with the product, artisans also have to learn how to get used to digital technology, learn about the platform, livestream policies... "From the perspective of an elderly person, that problem is really impossible."
Actor Hung Thuan also said that this product is "extremely difficult to sell"!
Many difficult problems are raised right at the end of episode 6. What surprises will actors Hung Thuan, Doctor Cung, Le Anh Nuoi, Miss Hoang Phuong and Runner-up Hoang Nhung encounter in the process of bringing traditional products to TikTok Shop? The solution will gradually be revealed in episode 7 of "Key Profession".
