In the first three months of 2024, Vietnam tourism welcomed 4.6 million international visitors, an increase of 72% over the same period in 2023, an increase of 3.2% over the same period in 2019 - the time before the Covid-19 pandemic. Vietnam tourism is gradually recovering, especially domestic tourism activities have achieved some positive results. In 2024, the growth trend is positive and Vietnam tourism may exceed the set target.
The problem is that tourism needs to improve the quality and efficiency of growth, including tourism promotion. The reality shows that tourism promotion in Vietnam is still slow to innovate, lacking in comprehensiveness and long-term vision. Currently, in the Mekong Delta and many localities and tourist destinations across the country, promotion and promotion still face difficulties and obstacles that need to be resolved.
Mr. Tran Van Thi - Director of Bac Lieu Province Tourism Promotion Center shared: "Currently, the promotion work of the provinces is facing difficulties in terms of funding. Funding is provided but not much. That is a limitation and difficulty that makes activities not diverse as well as not expanding participation in many programs. Regarding connections, there are many, but in terms of realizing these connections, it is necessary to promote, to effectively implement connections and cooperation with each other".
Identifying promotion as a key activity, contributing to promoting tourism products as well as the uniqueness and novelty of different tourist areas and destinations, the Hanoi Department of Tourism always focuses on fully implementing the solutions and directions of the Central Government in promoting and advertising the image of Vietnam tourism in general and the capital Hanoi in particular.
According to Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh - Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Tourism, the innovation in promoting the image of tourism in the capital has gradually brought about effectiveness: "For Hanoi, we boldly promote and communicate on international media channels because the number of foreign visitors to Vietnam is mainly concentrated in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, so promoting on international channels is also very important. In recent years, we have also promoted on CNN and on various social networking platforms. Currently, interaction on social networks attracts a large number of tourists, especially those who love information technology".
According to information from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, tourism promotion and advertising in 2024 will be implemented with the key task of organizing 3 international tourism fairs - VITM London; CITM China Fair; Fair in ASEAN - China held in November. Along with that are programs to introduce Vietnamese tourism in North America, Australia, China, Europe, ASEAN; India and programs to promote the Vietnam Cultural Tourism Festival in Southeast Asian countries.
In particular, the tourism promotion program considered the highlight of 2024 will be implemented through cinema art held in the United States, with the expectation that the effectiveness of film studios filmed in countries will contribute to creating tourism attraction.
Mr. Nguyen Chau A - General Director of Oxalis Adventure, a unit coordinating with the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, said that the program to promote and advertise tourism through cinema will create great attraction to other international markets: "Promoting destination awareness is very important, to let people know that in Vietnam there is a city or an interesting destination. Normally, tourists from Europe and America often look for destinations that do not exist in their home country, people go looking for what they do not have. Therefore, Vietnam can be very suitable for Western tourists to come and look for nature tourism, cultural tourism, with things they are interested in".
At the 2024 Tourism Promotion Conference, representatives of the Departments of Tourism in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, the Mekong Delta and many travel businesses also agreed to support the tourism promotion program through cinema. If implemented in the right direction, the promotion and advertising work will be effective, Vietnam tourism will create a breakthrough, highlight the brand, be worthy of tourism, achieve the goal of attracting 18 million international visitors, serving 110 million domestic visitors in 2024.
