According to Mr. Yoshida Kenji, Chief Representative of the Japan Tourism Promotion Agency in Vietnam, 2023 is the year to celebrate "50 years of establishing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan".
The number of Vietnamese tourists traveling to Japan has recorded an all-time high of 573,000 visitors, an increase of 115% compared to 2019 before Covid-19.
In just the first 5 months of 2024, the number of Vietnamese visitors to Japan was about 284,300, the highest ever, an increase of 108.5% over the same period in 2023 and continuing to increase strongly.
In 2024, in parallel with the goal of increasing the number of Vietnamese tourists to Japan, JNTO has launched a new logo and message with the theme "Introducing the beauty of Japanese localities" and "Providing high-class tourism services only available in Japan".

“The main task of JNTO is to promote tourism from Vietnam to Japan, but we also understand that “tourism” is the exchange of people from both sides. From that perspective, we hope that more and more Japanese tourists will return to Vietnam and visit Da Nang .
We want to convey the appeal of Da Nang to Japanese tourists,” said Mr. Yoshida Kenji.
Deputy Director of Da Nang Department of Tourism Nguyen Thi Hoai An shared that Japan is a traditional and stable tourist market for Vietnam in general and Da Nang in particular.
In 2023, with the return of the direct flight from Da Nang to Narita operated by Vietnam Airlines, the total number of Japanese visitors to Da Nang in 2023 will reach about 121,000, a 65% recovery compared to 2019 with 186,000.
In the first 5 months of 2024, the number of Japanese visitors reached more than 65,000, forecast to grow compared to 2023.
Although tourism professionals are a bit concerned that the Japanese market has not really returned due to global economic difficulties, the destination of Da Nang always focuses on sustaining the Japanese market and bringing new products, services and the best experiences to Japanese tourists.
In 2024, Da Nang will bring visitors a series of unique events and festivals such as the Brazil - Vietnam Football Festival, Da Nang International Fireworks Festival, Da Nang Enjoy Festival, BRG Open Golf Championship... along with many new tourism products such as Bach Dang Walking Street and Nguyen Van Troi Bridge; Danang Downtown and Symphony of River Grand Music Festival; Hue - Da Nang "Back to the Heritage Land" tourist train.
“I propose to the Japanese consulate in Da Nang and the Japan Tourism Promotion Agency to connect Japanese partners so that they can participate in the destination's product and service chain to diversify and professionalize the tourism products and services of Da Nang as well as contribute to promoting Japanese culture,” Ms. Hoai An shared.
The workshop is also an opportunity for Da Nang businesses to update information, destinations, new and suitable products to proactively implement tourism plans and programs connecting the two countries.
More favorable immigration policies between the two countries will contribute to promoting the exchange of visitors between Da Nang (Vietnam) and Japan, towards rapid and sustainable development.
