In the first months of 2024, trade promotion and market expansion activities in Hanoi in particular and the whole country in general continued to achieve positive results.

Data from the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade shows that in the first 7 months of 2024, the total export turnover of goods reached 10.4 billion USD, up 10.8% over the same period; the import turnover of goods reached 23.1 billion USD, up 14.7% over the same period last year.

The above results were achieved thanks to promoting the effective exploitation of traditional trade promotion methods, while at the same time flexibly innovating and diversifying methods through digital transformation.

Trade promotion creates brand

Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade said that through the implementation of trade promotion programs, many units, enterprises and cooperatives have promoted their products, improved their competitiveness, connected with partners, and expanded domestic and foreign product consumption markets.

Up to now (August 2024), Hanoi has had 2,711 One Commune One Product (OCOP) products; of which, there are 6 5-star OCOP products, 12 potential 5-star products, 1,473 4-star products, and 1,220 3-star products. This is considered a bright spot of Hanoi city, leading the country in OCOP development.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Duong, Director of the Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion of Hanoi City, said that supporting businesses to participate in displaying and introducing products so that businesses and production establishments can exchange and promote trade is one of the important tasks assigned by the City People's Committee to the Center.

Accordingly, the Center has coordinated with relevant units to organize and participate in many fairs and exhibitions in Hanoi and other localities across the country. "Fairs and exhibitions are opportunities for Hanoi businesses' products to reach further and get closer to domestic and foreign consumers," said Mr. Nguyen Anh Duong.

Some of Hanoi's trade promotion programs have even created brands, spread, and connected localities, not only supporting businesses in Hanoi but also supporting businesses in provinces and cities across the country to promote products, improve competitiveness, connect with partners, and expand domestic and export markets.

Typical examples include: the annual Vietnam Regional Specialties Fair with the participation of nearly 60 provinces and cities; Hanoi's OCOP program has done very well, helping to develop the rural economy, OCOP products have gradually gained a foothold in the domestic and export markets; programs to access large distribution systems abroad such as AEON (Japan), Lotte (Korea), Big C, Go (Central Group)...

In addition, Hanoi city also implements market expansion and development through online and digital platforms, in which e-commerce is promoted throughout.

In particular, innovating and diversifying trade promotion methods through digital transformation is one of the contents in Program No. 03/CTr-UBND on promoting investment, trade and tourism in Hanoi in 2024 of the Hanoi People's Committee to improve productivity, quality, efficiency, competitiveness and internal capacity of the capital's economy.

Specifically, the program contributes to realizing the target of increasing Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) from 7.5-8.0%/year in the period of 2021-2025 as set by the City at the 17th Hanoi Party Congress. Continuing to promote the results achieved in the promotion work towards focusing on one focal point as identified and effectively implemented by the City People's Committee in the period of 2015-2020.

Promoting the application of information technology and digital transformation

In order to effectively support trade activities, Mr. Nguyen Anh Duong said that this year, Hanoi will promote export promotion, trade promotion and trade connection, participate in distribution systems abroad; effectively exploit traditional trade promotion methods, at the same time, innovate and diversify trade promotion methods through promoting the application of information technology and digital transformation in these activities.

It is expected that Hanoi will organize many promotion and investment activities such as organizing the Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Conference with the theme of Hanoi and the provinces of the Red River Delta; the Southeast region - Connecting for development - "Link to Grow"; organizing the Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Program for Hanoi's craft villages combined with a space for craft demonstrations for Hanoi's traditional craft villages.

Not only effectively exploiting traditional trade promotion methods, Hanoi also innovates and diversifies trade promotion methods through promoting the application of information technology and digital transformation in these activities, especially when large markets such as the European Union (EU), the US... increasingly impose strict standards, environment, and green transformation on Vietnam's imported goods.

In particular, taking advantage of the advantages of information technology and digital transformation in the information exchange mechanism, implementing trade promotion activities in the network of agencies, trade promotion organizations and the business community; promoting agricultural products of Hanoi city...

In addition, the city also focuses on exploiting and providing timely and accurate information, supporting the shortening of administrative procedures, and creating maximum conditions to remove difficulties and obstacles in investment, production and business activities of enterprises.

With Hanoi's efforts and the "sweet fruits" it has reaped thanks to trade promotion, Mr. Vu Ba Phu, Director of the Trade Promotion Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) affirmed: "Hanoi has contributed to creating the role of connecting trade promotion of the Capital to the region and the whole country. At the same time, it is the focal point for implementing the city's promotion work in all three areas of investment, trade, and tourism".
