After a 5-month pilot, District 1 decided to expand sidewalk rental to 52 streets to improve urban order and create favorable business conditions for people.
This morning (October 25), the People's Committee of District 1, Ho Chi Minh City held a conference to summarize the pilot and expand the sidewalk rental for business services on 52 qualified streets.
Five months ago, the district piloted sidewalk rentals on 11 streets. As a result, 374 people registered to rent sidewalks for business, with a total fee collection of more than VND810 million.
Mr. Vu Nguyen Quang Vinh - Vice Chairman of District 1 People's Committee - assessed that the pilot sidewalk fee collection has contributed to improving urban order, creating a neater landscape, ensuring safe and clear walkways for pedestrians without affecting general traffic. In addition, the application of technology to sidewalk management has helped reduce administrative procedures, saving costs and human resources.
In the coming time, according to Mr. Chung, District 1 will organize sidewalk rentals on 52 routes (including 41 new routes compared to the pilot phase). These routes all meet infrastructure requirements and do not affect traffic.
"When 52 routes are deployed simultaneously, the workload of the wards will increase 4 times compared to the pilot period. Therefore, during the implementation period, it is very necessary to have the awareness of compliance of organizations and individuals. Relevant agencies and units must also strengthen supervision and management," Mr. Vinh emphasized.
