Care and closeness with Agent Orange victims

That is Mr. Le Van Vu (born in 1955), currently the Chairman of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (AO/Dioxin) in Vinh Kim Commune, Chau Thanh District, Tien Giang Province. He is an Association official who regularly visits and shares with AO/Dioxin victims - those who have suffered and are suffering many pains in life due to the effects of toxic chemicals left over from the war. Mr. Vu comes to AO/Dioxin victims with both love and responsibility as a social worker - charity worker.

Mr. Vu volunteered to join the army in 1979, in the Rach Gam Battalion - Tien Giang and participated in international service in Cambodia. After 3 years of completing his service, in 1982, Mr. Vu returned to his hometown, lived with his family and continued to work and contribute in his hometown - Vinh Kim commune through many positions, such as: Commune Team Leader, Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, Chairman of the Commune Farmers' Association until he retired, transferred to work at the Commune Association of Victims of Agent Orange and was elected as Chairman of the Association.

Through a long journey of work and dedication, with the virtues of diligence, hard work and friendliness towards everyone, in any position, in any difficult circumstances, Mr. Vu always strives to complete well the assigned tasks.

Currently, as the Chairman of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange in Vinh Kim Commune, Mr. Vu always cares, closely follows, and understands the pain and difficulties in the lives of Victims of Agent Orange. From there, to contribute to alleviating the pain of Agent Orange, Mr. Vu and his colleagues in the Executive Committee of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange in Vinh Kim Commune regularly discuss and find ways to help and care for Victims of Agent Orange in the most effective and practical way.

Currently, Vinh Kim commune has 318 victims of Agent Orange and people with disabilities who need help from the community, especially families of victims in especially difficult circumstances. For example, the cases of Agent Orange victims: Nguyen Thi My Quyen (born in 2011, Vinh Binh hamlet), born with a disability and no arms; Nguyen Thanh Tam (born in 1996, Vinh Quy hamlet), who is disabled, deformed, and paralyzed; Nguyen Thi Nhanh (born in 1969, Vinh Hoa hamlet), who has a mental illness; Nguyen Thi Ngoc Thuy (born in 1993, Vinh Quy hamlet), who is disabled, deformed, and born with a disability...

To have resources to help and support AO victims, Mr. Vu, along with the Executive Committee and members of the Association of AO victims in Vinh Kim commune, regularly go to "red addresses", acquaintances, friends, fellow countrymen, agencies and units inside and outside the province to mobilize contributions.

With the above approach, each year, the Association of Victims of Agent Orange in Vinh Kim Commune has mobilized about 100 million VND, helping victims overcome difficulties in life. Mr. Vu shared: “I always think that taking care of Victims of Agent Orange and their families is the responsibility of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange at all levels, demonstrating the spirit of mutual love and support.

The forms of care and assistance for AO victims are diverse and sustainable, such as: visiting, giving gifts, regular and occasional subsidies; medical examination, free medicine, rehabilitation; support for livelihood capital, scholarships, vocational training, employment, house building, house repair, etc.

Because AO victims often suffer from serious, chronic diseases, disabilities, deformities... which greatly limit their ability to work or completely lose their ability to work. Most families with AO victims are poor, so helping and supporting the families of victims to have more income, overcome poverty, stabilize their lives, and integrate into the community is the long-term goal of the Association of AO victims in Vinh Kim commune at present.

Mr. Vu always plays a key role in the activities of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange in Vinh Kim Commune, and is always attached to the Association and close to the Victims of Agent Orange. With the achievements in recent years, the Association of Victims of Agent Orange in Vinh Kim Commune has contributed to the effective implementation of social security policies in the locality.

At the same time, the Association of Victims of Agent Orange in Vinh Kim commune was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Tien Giang province, and many Certificates of Merit were awarded by the Provincial Association of Victims of Agent Orange and the People's Committee of Chau Thanh district. Mr. Vu himself was awarded many Certificates of Merit by the Provincial Association of Victims of Agent Orange and Chau Thanh district for his active contributions to the Association's activities.
