The Dong Hoi and coastal forest management board of Quang Binh province is currently assigned to manage nearly 14 thousand hectares of forest and forest land (of which, protective forest and forest land is over 5 thousand hectares; production forest and forest land is nearly 6 thousand hectares; the remaining area is forest and forest land outside the planning of 3 types of forests).
Identifying that protective forests play a particularly important role in enhancing the resilience of natural systems, ensuring national environmental security, and providing products and services for local socio -economic development and communities living near forests, recently, the Dong Hoi and coastal forest protection management board of Quang Binh province has proactively developed a plan for sustainable management of upstream protective forests for the period 2025-2034, based on the land use plan approved by superiors.

Specifically, the total land area within the scope of developing a sustainable upstream protection forest management plan of the Dong Hoi and coastal protection forest management board of Quang Binh province is 2,866.55 hectares (of which, Thuan Duc commune is 2,263.29 hectares, Dong Son ward is 603.26 hectares), this area is being used by the unit for the right purpose as upstream protection forest land.
The unit's main objective when developing the above plan, first of all, in terms of environment, will aim to effectively protect the entire area of ​​2,358.33 hectares of natural forest, 324.70 hectares of planted forest, 107.84 hectares of unforested planted forest; maintain forest cover of over 93%. The unit strives to improve forest quality, enhance the ability to protect soil and retain water of the forest; enhance the ability to absorb and store carbon, protect the regional ecological environment from the effects of climate change.
In addition, the Dong Hoi and coastal forest management board also aims to effectively protect and develop forest ecosystems, through silvicultural measures to enhance and maximize forest functions; limit soil erosion, prevent water resource degradation; limit landslides and floods, protect the ecological environment and contribute to conserving the gene sources of rare animal and plant species.
To manage upstream protection forests in a sustainable manner, currently, the Dong Hoi and coastal protection forests management board of Quang Binh province has completed the development of many solutions related to the management, protection and conservation of biodiversity; building and developing human resources; coordinating with relevant parties; applying science and technology, protecting the environment; using capital sources, mobilizing investment capital; minimizing negative impacts on the environment...
Mr. Dinh Thanh Quang, Deputy Director in charge of Dong Hoi and coastal protection forest management board of Quang Binh province said: In terms of society and economy, when the plan for sustainable management of upstream protection forests is approved, we will step up coordination with functional units to organize many training courses to improve people's knowledge and awareness of the importance of forest protection associated with indigenous cultural values ​​and local occupations; attract and create jobs, increase income for local people; support local communities to build sustainable agricultural production models, create livelihoods for people, build and develop community ecotourism models.

The Dong Hoi and coastal forest protection management board of Quang Binh province continues to direct its subordinate units, with the core being the hill forest protection station, to organize concentrated forest protection management and stabilization of the entire assigned protective forest area; strictly implement forest fire prevention and fighting plans; proactively select legal seed sources with origins and production licenses; develop mixed forest planting plans suitable to the unit's reality. Every month, the board will proactively inspect and review forest pests to promptly detect and effectively control forest pests and diseases.
