Hoan Kiem District honors 150 outstanding veterans

Attending the meeting were 150 veterans, former People's Police, and former outstanding youth volunteers of Hoan Kiem district.

Speaking at the conference, on behalf of the Party Committee and government of Hoan Kiem district, Secretary of the District Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Hoan Kiem district Vu Dang Dinh expressed his respect, gratitude and deep admiration for the sacrifices and contributions of veterans, former People's Police officers, and former youth volunteers of the district in both wartime and peacetime.

“We promise to continue promoting the spirit of solidarity and heroic revolutionary tradition, better implementing policies for people with meritorious services, and at the same time, strengthening gratitude activities, taking care of the material and spiritual lives of policy beneficiaries, families of war invalids and martyrs,” said Secretary of the Hoan Kiem District Party Committee Vu Dang Dinh.

At the meeting, delegates watched a historical documentary about the general offensive to liberate the South and unify the country, and reviewed the heroic memories of the country's history.

Representing historical witnesses who directly participated in the battles that led to the great victory of Spring 1975, Major General Nguyen Nhat Ky, a member of the Veterans Association of Cua Dong Ward, Hoan Kiem District, former Political Commissar of Infantry Company 2, Battalion 7, Brigade 52, Military Region 5 in the Spring Campaign of 1975, recalled the heroic memories when he and his comrades opened fire on the attack, on the same day as the key opening battle in Buon Ma Thuot in the Central Highlands Campaign in March 1975. After a day of fighting, Brigade 52, Division 2 and local forces took control of two district sub-regions, creating conditions for the people of the communes to rise up, seize power to liberate the entire district, and put pressure to prepare to attack Tam Ky town.

“When our army fought to divide the campaign, isolating the enemy in Xuan Loc from Bien Hoa and Ba Ria, the enemy fell after 12 days and nights (from April 9 to April 20, 1975). This was also the most fierce battle among the 5 army wings, when capturing the enemy's outer defense areas, aiming to create a position for the Ho Chi Minh campaign, liberating Saigon - Gia Dinh. Opening the "steel door" of Xuan Loc, our 52nd Brigade in the 4th Corps formation, participating in the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, fiercely attacked along Highway 1, breaking through the enemy's defense areas in Trang Bom, Ho Nai and Bien Hoa town and entering the inner city of Saigon on the afternoon of April 30, 1975", Major General Nguyen Nhat Ky shared.
