Chinese Vice President Han Zheng emphasized that during his official visit to Malaysia from November 8-11.
The guest in China had an audience with His Majesty King Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, greeted Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and met with other officials. Both sides agreed to work together to promote bilateral relations as the two countries celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2024.
During his meeting with His Majesty King Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah on November 9, Han Zheng highlighted the long history of friendship between the two countries and expressed his desire to strengthen cooperation with Malaysia in implementing the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), promoting national development plans, and building a community with a shared future. Congratulating China on its great achievements in building the BRI, King Abdullah affirmed that China's strong economic growth has promoted the development of ASEAN members. Malaysia is willing to upgrade bilateral cooperation to bring better benefits to the people of both countries.
At the meeting with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Mr. Han Zheng affirmed that China considers Malaysia a trustworthy friend, an important strategic partner and always supports Malaysia in choosing a development path suitable to the country's conditions.
Affirming that China will work with Malaysia to promote high-quality BRI cooperation, he expressed his hope that the two countries will strengthen people-to-people exchanges and expand cooperation in many areas including economy and trade, culture, tourism, education, science and technology to create new momentum for the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership.
Agreeing with Vice President Han Zheng, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said that the Malaysia-China relationship is of special and strategic significance. Malaysia is committed to strengthening cooperation with China in various fields and expressed its desire to attract more Chinese enterprises to invest and do business in Malaysia, for the mutual benefit of both countries.
During the visit, Mr. Han Zheng also met with Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, visited Penang state and met with Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, and visited the joint venture project between Chinese automaker Geely and Malaysian automaker Proton in Tanjung Malim, Perak state.
