Noble nature, heroic tradition
Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia - Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department affirmed: Since its inception and throughout the process of leading the Vietnamese revolution, our Party has always creatively applied Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh's thought on building a new-style army, suitable to the specific circumstances and conditions of Vietnam. At the same time, it affirmed the necessity of organizing and leading the army to become the core force for the entire people to fight the enemy, successfully carry out the cause of national liberation and protection of the Fatherland. When the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army was established, in addition to the command system, the Party established a Party cell to lead the team to carry out its tasks, establishing the first victories at Phai Khat and Na Ngan. After the success of the August Revolution in 1945, to ensure and strengthen the Party's absolute leadership over the army, the Party Central Committee decided to establish the Central Military Commission, which is the highest leadership body of the Party in the army.
Implementing the Party's revolutionary line, military line, people's war line and all-people national defense line, the Vietnam People's Army has developed from nothing to something, from small to large, increasingly powerful, together with the entire people completing the people's national democratic revolution and carrying out the socialist revolution, being the core force in building a strong all-people national defense, ready to smash all plots and actions that violate the independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Fatherland.
At the same time, the army also plays an important role in building infrastructure, developing the socio-economy, maintaining national defense and security, especially in remote, border and island areas. Implementing the Party's policy of expanding foreign relations, multilateralizing and diversifying international relations, the army has performed well in its defense diplomacy tasks, contributing to enhancing Vietnam's position in the international arena. In any field or task, thoroughly grasping the Party's guidelines and viewpoints, "Uncle Ho's soldiers" have also excellently completed their tasks.
From the 80-year experience of building, fighting and growing up of the Vietnam People's Army, General Phan Van Giang - Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense affirmed: In any revolutionary period, even in the most difficult and complicated times, the Communist Party of Vietnam always has absolute and direct leadership in all aspects over the Army. This is the decisive factor ensuring all victories in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland and the maturity, fighting and victory of the Army; ensuring that the Army is truly a sharp tool, an absolutely loyal and trustworthy political force of the Party, State and people, building the tradition: "Loyal to the Party, filial to the people, ready to fight and sacrifice for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, for socialism, completing any task, overcoming any difficulty, defeating any enemy".
Also according to Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang, the noble nature, heroic tradition, and glorious career of the Vietnam People's Army, "Uncle Ho's Army" is the continuation and promotion of the tradition of patriotism and culture of defending the country against foreign invaders of the Vietnamese people, consolidated and promoted by generations of cadres and soldiers, becoming a unique characteristic of the revolutionary army born from the people, fighting for the people.
From the first battle, winning, opening the tradition of "Determination to fight, determination to win", our Army together with the entire people carried out the August 1945 General Uprising, won victory, established the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, opened a new era in the history of the nation. In the two resistance wars against the French colonialists and the invading American imperialists, implementing the Party's resistance line, our Army fought stronger and stronger, achieved outstanding feats, the peak of which was the Dien Bien Phu Victory in 1954, leading to the victorious end of the resistance war against the French colonialists and the Great Spring Victory in 1975, gloriously ending the resistance war against the Americans, saving the country, opening a new era in the history of the nation: the era of independence, freedom and progress towards socialism. With a pure international spirit, following President Ho Chi Minh's teaching "helping the people of other countries means helping ourselves", our Army has also excellently completed its international missions, leaving a good image of "Uncle Ho's Army", "Buddhist Army" in the hearts of the people of other countries.
After the country's reunification, our Army fought and won the war to defend the Fatherland at the southwestern border and the war to defend the Fatherland at the northern border; continued to perform well the functions of the combat army, the working army and the production labor army; played a core role in building the all-people national defense, the all-people national defense posture associated with the people's security posture, building a solid defense zone; always proactively advised the Party and the State on military and defense guidelines, policies and viewpoints, contributing to creating a peaceful and stable environment for national construction and development.

Currently, in response to the requirement of building a lean, strong, modern Army to meet the task of protecting the Fatherland in the new situation, building a politically strong Army to ensure that the Army, regardless of the circumstances, is always a political force, an absolutely loyal and trustworthy fighting force of the Party, the State and the people has become especially important, requiring drastic implementation with many synchronous solutions; in which, it is necessary to maintain and promote the qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers". Today's generations of cadres and soldiers need to uphold their sense of responsibility to the Party, the Fatherland, the people and the socialist regime; have deep affection for beloved President Ho Chi Minh, strive to study, cultivate, train, promote and shine the image of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" in the new period, contributing to building a politically strong Army, as a basis for improving overall quality, fighting strength, and excellently completing all tasks assigned by the Party and the people.
"The battle of people's hearts" and the core role of the Army
Along with building a revolutionary, disciplined, elite, and modern People's Army and People's Public Security Forces, our Party has consistently implemented the policy of all-people national defense and people's war, building all-people national defense and people's security, the all-people national defense posture associated with the people's security posture associated with a solid "people's hearts posture", creating a combined strength to successfully carry out the two strategic tasks of building and firmly defending the Fatherland.

The armed forces have been built politically strong, with increasingly high combat power, creating conditions and premises to build a "refined, compact, strong" army, gradually modernizing. Regarding building the "people's hearts and minds position", Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia - Head of the Central Propaganda Department affirmed: Throughout the history of the nation, the people's hearts and minds position has always been the most important factor, creating a comprehensive strength in politics, national defense and security to successfully implement revolutionary goals, protect sovereignty, territory, national security and social order and safety.
In the current revolutionary period, building a “people’s heart position” is a strategic, all-people, comprehensive, regular, continuous issue, with high unity between “Party’s will” and “people’s heart”; demonstrating the consensus of the people to wholeheartedly follow the Party’s leadership and participate in national defense and security tasks. The people’s support and participation are a driving force and great spiritual strength, transformed into material strength, ensuring the victory of the cause of defending the Fatherland, the Party, the State and the socialist regime.
Promoting its role as the core force, the Army, together with the entire Party and people, has focused all efforts on building a strong national defense and achieved many important results. Notably, the Army has promoted its proactive role in researching, assessing, and accurately forecasting the situation, advising the Party and the State in formulating many defense policies, guidelines, and strategies, and in formulating strategic guidelines for national defense; promptly handling situations well, avoiding being passive or surprised. At the same time, it has actively participated in the tasks of socio-economic development, expanding international cooperation and defense diplomacy; providing humanitarian assistance, search and rescue, disaster relief, overcoming the consequences of natural disasters and epidemics, etc., contributing to maintaining a peaceful and stable environment for national construction and development, firmly protecting the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam.
Under the leadership of the Party, our Army has achieved many glorious feats in combat, and is the core force in the cause of building a strong national defense. Those feats are the crystallization of many factors, typically the leadership of the Party; the process of implementing Ho Chi Minh's military ideology; the efforts, spirit, determination, bravery, creativity, and readiness to endure hardship and sacrifice of generations of cadres and soldiers in the entire army; the trust, support, assistance, and great contributions and sacrifices of the people... all of which have gone down in national history, creating an immortal heroic epic in the Ho Chi Minh era, a shining symbol of the spirit and will to fight for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, for socialism, and for the selfless people.
Based on the achievements, General Phan Van Giang said that many profound and valuable lessons have been drawn, such as: It is necessary to maintain and strengthen the absolute and direct leadership in all aspects of the Party in the cause of building the Army, strengthening national defense, and protecting the Fatherland; building a politically strong Army; continuing to promote the combined strength of the great national unity bloc in building a strong national defense; building a revolutionary, disciplined, elite, "skillful, compact, strong" People's Army, advancing towards modernization, as the core force in the cause of building a national defense, meeting the requirements and tasks of protecting the Fatherland in the new situation; regularly taking care of building a national defense posture associated with a solid people's security posture, ready to transform into a people's war posture to protect the Fatherland.
