In the struggles for national liberation and the defense of the Fatherland, Thanh Hoa City has been the birthplace and nurturing ground for many heroes and patriots during the periods of resistance against Northern feudal rule, the struggle for independence of Vietnamese feudal dynasties, and especially during the Ho Chi Minh era. Entering the resistance war against the US, the glorious historical and revolutionary traditions of this land along the Ma River were once again powerfully ignited. Not only was it a rear base providing manpower and resources to the front lines, the city was also a fierce battlefield, directly burying many invading troops. When speaking of one of the glorious events that has left a brilliant page in the history of the Vietnamese nation, one must first mention the victory at Ham Rong. This victory is of extremely special significance, as our army and people won the first battle and achieved a resounding victory against the massive attack from the "power of the US Air Force". The "steel fortress" of Ham Rong became a terror to the American invaders. American pilots later had to admit: Ham Rong was one of the most fiercely contested anti-aircraft battlefields.

The glorious chapter of Ham Rong - Nam Ngan's heroic deeds has closed with history, but that immortal epic still resonates throughout the mountains and rivers. Six decades later, Ham Rong, once an "immortal fortress," is confidently stepping into a new era, carrying with it a remarkably heroic historical legacy. This legacy is not only a source of pride but also a flame that ignites aspirations for greater heights and further progress. With a historical foundation distilled over time and preserved to this day, Thanh Hoa City possesses a crucial spiritual "pillar" to build and develop this land into an increasingly prosperous, civilized, and modern place.

Rising from a small, impoverished town heavily damaged by two wars, this once steadfast and heroic land has now donned a vibrant and beautiful new appearance. Through five administrative boundary expansions, the city's population has increased to over 615,000, ranking second among 19 Type I cities in terms of population size and ninth among 19 Type I cities nationwide in terms of natural area, covering 228.22 km². The city's development is not only for its own benefit but also for the entire Thanh Hoa province. Therefore, in recent years, the city has focused on comprehensive development in economic , cultural, social, and national defense and security sectors, achieving many encouraging results. Many important economic indicators of the city, such as budget revenue, investment mobilization, goods exports, and total retail sales, have made significant contributions to the overall development of the province. The clearest evidence is that the total retail sales of goods and revenue from service sectors in 2024 reached VND 49,117 billion, ranking first in the province; the total production value of the city reached VND 81,220 billion, ranking second in the province; and the growth rate of production value reached 10.25%, ranking fourth in the province. The economic structure has shifted in the right direction, the investment and business environment has improved, economic sectors have diversified, and businesses and entrepreneurs have grown rapidly in terms of quantity, scale, and industry structure.

To create new breakthroughs that promote the development of the provincial capital, the city has seized opportunities, effectively and flexibly applied mechanisms and policies, and prioritized resources to create a synchronous and modern urban infrastructure "framework". Currently, dilapidated residential areas with poor infrastructure and suburban areas have been transformed into new, synchronous, and modern residential areas, creating a highlight in urban architecture for the city. Located in a prime location, Vincom Plaza Thanh Hoa is one of the most bustling and upscale commercial centers in Thanh Hoa. Vinhomes Star City is a rare project that combines all three elements of "proximity to roads, proximity to rivers, and proximity to the city center," becoming an ideal place to live for many urban residents. The Dong Hai urban area is built with modern architecture and green living spaces, creating an impressive image of a dynamic and modern developing city... The transformation of the city's appearance today is also evident in the highly connected transportation infrastructure linking urban areas, rural areas, and the city's six centers with key economic regions within and outside the province, ensuring convenient connections between urban areas, between the city and its surroundings, and with national transportation routes.

The aspiration to build an increasingly prosperous city is clearly demonstrated with the merger of Dong Son district into Thanh Hoa City according to Resolution No. 1238/NQ-UBTVQH15 of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly. This historic merger marks an extremely important milestone, because after 220 years of formation and development, Thanh Hoa City has never had the strength and position it has today. With the appearance of an urban area "backed by mountains, along rivers, and facing the sea," Thanh Hoa City is developing strongly towards the West to connect Thanh Hoa City with the North-South expressway and to further connect the development of the economic driving force of Thanh Hoa City - Sam Son City - the western region of the province; at the same time, it is developing towards the Northeast to form an urban area "on both banks of the Ma River". From there, a concentrated urban space is formed, spreading and connecting the three regions: mountainous, plain, and coastal areas of Thanh Hoa province.

The city on the banks of the Ma River is brimming with vitality. And deep within it lies a "soft power" of glorious historical and revolutionary traditions and a rich cultural heritage, which is and will continue to be the spiritual foundation and powerful endogenous resource, urging the city to move quickly and strongly into a new chapter, with faith and hope for prosperous development and a strong sense of identity.
