On July 10 and 11, more than 4,200 workers at Simone Vietnam Handbag Company Limited (in Long Hau Industrial Park, Can Giuoc District, Long An) stopped working collectively to demand a pay increase.

According to workers, the company has not increased wages for the past 3 years, while rising prices have made workers' lives very difficult.

Ms. Bui Thi Ngoc Trang, Chairwoman of the Long An Province Industrial Parks Trade Union, said that after receiving the information, the Trade Union coordinated with the Inspectorate of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of the province and the People's Committee of Can Giuoc district to directly visit Simone Vietnam Handbag Company Limited to coordinate the resolution.

According to the announcement of Simone Vietnam Handbag Co., Ltd., the salary increase is applied by the company according to Clause 6, Article 3, Circular 10/2020 of the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, regulating salary increase agreement.

"The company is legally implementing the salary increase based on the law and company regulations. Until now, there has been no announcement from the Government about increasing the regional minimum wage. Salary increase is not possible based on the company's current difficult situation," the company's announcement stated.

The company is committed to working with the contractor and will improve the quality of meals for workers in the future.

The Board of Directors called on everyone to return to work for the safety of the factory and workers. After being explained and informed of the policies, the workers agreed to return to work.

The union representative also said that it was wrong for workers to demand that the company increase wages. The company has implemented salary policies for workers according to the roadmap.

The provincial industrial park trade unions have also explained and promoted regulations for workers to understand, including salary and bonus regimes for workers, and at the same time encouraged workers to return to work.

On the afternoon of July 12, most workers returned to work.
