With advantages in climate and soil conditions, durian in Khanh Son has become a unique, high-value agricultural product.

The district's annual durian output reaches more than 15,000 tons and has been registered for trademark protection, voted as the golden agricultural brand of Vietnam.

According to the leader of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Khanh Son district, up to now, the district has developed 2,600 hectares of durian, of which more than 1,500 hectares are in the fruiting period, with durian varieties such as: Monthong, Ri6, Musang King, Chin Hoa.

In a short time, gardeners will begin harvesting durian in abundance, with this year's estimated output reaching about 17,000 - 18,000 tons.

Mr. Phan Truong Nam - Chairman of the People's Committee of Son Trung Commune, Khanh Son District (Khanh Hoa Province) shared: "The commune has 230 hectares of durian, with an area of ​​150 hectares in the business period, the expected harvest this year is about 1,300 tons.

In durian development, the commune focused on supporting the establishment of 3 cooperative groups and 1 cooperative, attracting more than 50 gardeners to participate.

Many products of fruit growing cooperatives and groups are recognized as meeting OCOP standards; many durian growing areas of farmers are given growing area codes to officially export durian to the Chinese market...".

Durian has brought high income to people in Khanh Son district, Khanh Hoa province.

Up to now, Khanh Son district has 11 cooperatives and 25 cooperative groups growing fruit trees and consuming durian, attracting hundreds of gardeners to participate.

The locality also mobilizes and encourages people to grow durian in the planning area, suitable to the climate and soil, especially ensuring irrigation water sources.

At the same time, durian production follows Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) standards with a total area of ​​over 350 hectares; developing 34 products achieving 3-star OCOP and 1 product achieving 4-star.

In particular, there are 15 durian growing areas in the area that are officially exported to China with a total area of ​​430 hectares.

According to Mr. Dinh Van Dung - Chairman of Khanh Son District People's Committee (Khanh Hoa Province), to develop durian in a clean, safe direction, with geographical indications and traceability, being granted a growing area code is an important solution to maintain and enhance the value of this agricultural product.

To maintain the growing area codes, recently, the district has stepped up propaganda, training, and guidance for people on techniques for planting, caring for, and harvesting durian according to regulations.

At the same time, promote support for people to produce durian in the direction of good agricultural practices; mobilize households to promote production linkages and synchronize production processes. From there, gradually meet the criteria for granting growing area codes such as area, production process, product quality, etc.

Deep processing to enhance value

Not only focusing on serving domestic consumption needs and exporting fresh durian through official channels, a direction that the locality focuses on is inviting businesses to invest in processing and increasing the value of fresh durian.

The pioneer in investing in this field is Thanh Hung Agricultural Company Limited - this is a local enterprise that chooses to grow, trade, process and develop value-added products of fresh durian.

From the organic durian growing area, which has met VietGAP standards, each durian that reaches maturity is harvested by the enterprise, through the processing process at the standard factory, creating product lines of dried durian, durian ice cream, frozen durian, durian yogurt...

Ms. Nguyen Thi Vinh Hang - Deputy Director of Thanh Hung Agricultural Company Limited shared: "Currently, the company focuses on building a chain of links with fruit growing cooperatives and gardeners in the district to expand and develop organic durian growing areas, ensuring safety for deep processing, continuing to research and develop product lines from fresh durian and officially exporting durian to foreign countries".

Mr. Dinh Van Dung said: Developing a variety of products based on fresh durian for domestic consumption and export will contribute to enhancing the brand value of Khanh Son durian, increasing income for durian growers; increasing the average production value/ha of cultivated land in the district to reach 100 million VND/ha.

The district encourages businesses to develop agriculture in the direction of integrating multi-value, in addition to the main value of agricultural products, there is also organic agricultural production, diversified OCOP products, integrating agriculture with tourism, linking in the chain from production to processing and consumption.
