Ready for operational plans and technical solutions

Mr. Huynh Quang Thinh, Head of PTC3 Technical Department, said: With the goal of safe, stable and efficient operation in power supply in 2025, since the end of the fourth quarter of 2024, PTC3 has directed its affiliated units to review and make specific plans to continue implementing solutions to prevent and reduce incidents and power losses, and increase the reliability of power supply.

For detailed operating plans and technical solutions for the peak dry season months of 2025 (from April to July every year), units under PTC3 must complete and prepare before March 31, 2025.

In particular, focus on reviewing and supplementing existing spare equipment and materials on the grid, proactively transferring them to meet the needs of repair and replacement when necessary, ensuring readiness in case of unusual handling; completing repair work and handling existing equipment.

PTC3 also increases on-duty, inspection, and review of the power grid under its management to promptly detect and handle equipment abnormalities, minimizing the risk of incidents or separating equipment from operation.

At the same time, strengthen coordination with units inside and outside the electricity industry to optimize power outage registration to reduce the time and number of power outages on a station or line.

Minimize maintenance and repair of the power grid that affects power supply, mobilize power sources during the peak dry season in the Northern region from April to July 2025, and in the Southern region from March to May 2025.

Proactively respond to extreme weather conditions

In the power grid area managed and operated by PTC3, there are localities with hot weather almost all year round, especially from March to May every year, such as Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan provinces.

This is also an area that strongly develops renewable energy sources such as solar power and wind power, contributing significantly to ensuring supply for the national power system.

Ensuring safe operation of the power transmission grid during the hot season is of particular importance to energy security and economic and social development in the region.

Mr. Nguyen Van Phong, Deputy Director of Binh Thuan Power Transmission, said: In the first 3 months of 2025, the unit has carried out 17 power outages to inspect, clean and maintain power lines and transformer stations to review and promptly fix potential risks that cause problems, ready to meet the increased demand for electricity in the harsh weather conditions of the 2025 hot season.

Statistics in the first 3 months of 2025, Binh Thuan Power Transmission has deployed cleaning, maintenance, repair, and handling of unusual defects with potential risks of causing incidents on power lines and transformer stations through 7 nighttime power outages, 10 daytime power outages, and 2 coordinated with the work power outage schedule of Power Transmission Company 4.

Thereby, 10 frayed maintenance joints of conductors and lightning protection wires were promptly handled; 20 heat-generating points on the grid were handled, etc. In addition, to limit power outages without causing interruptions in power supply, the unit has deployed a hotline high-pressure water insulation cleaning campaign at 27 locations of the 220kV Phan Ri - Hong Phong - Phan Thiet line.

For the work of winding and maintaining lightning protection wires, Binh Thuan Power Transmission has effectively applied winding robots to complete the proposed volume. This is a technology that brings positive effects in managing and operating the power grid, helping to increase labor productivity, especially in cases where power outages are only allowed for construction at night.

The Deputy Director of Binh Thuan Power Transmission added that the unit has also cleared fire-proof corridors of the 220kV and 500kV power grids to ensure that there are no flammable materials under the power grid corridors in areas at high risk of fire with a total area of over 405,000 m2.

Conduct thermal inspection at all locations with connections and contacts of the conductors, especially at times of high load on power lines and transformer stations; check and review phase-to-ground distances at poles intersecting with roads, railways, and critical locations.

At the same time, increase the use of drones (UAVs) to conduct specialized flights to inspect equipment at key locations, hills and areas with high pollution levels to promptly detect damage to conductors, lightning protection wires, optical cables, insulation accessories, etc.

Thereby improving the quality of operation management, promptly detecting and handling existing problems and defects on the power grid, preventing incidents causing power supply interruptions due to subjective causes.

In contrast to the climate of the South Central Coast provinces, this time is the last months of the dry season, preparing for the transition season of the Central Highlands region, the weather is dry, hot and the load demand often increases during this period.

Mr. Phan Dinh Thien, Director of Dak Nong Power Transmission, said that in Dak Nong province, it is currently the time of changing seasons (dry season from October to the end of April; rainy season from May to September) with unpredictable weather, causing difficulties in grid management and operation, with a high risk of incidents. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the inspection and maintenance of equipment on the grid, especially the 500kV line and substations.

In addition, the unit also urgently deployed inspection and handling plans to prepare for the rainy season, such as: clearing drainage ditches, re-checking embankment locations at risk of landslides on 220kV and 500kV power lines.

By the end of March 2025, Dak Nong Power Transmission had cleaned the porcelain, tightened the wire rope eye bolts and auxiliary rope clamps, and handled the top grounding contact on the 500kV line 572/Dak Nong - 574/Cau Bong, the 500kV Dak Nong - 3015 substation section. At the same time, it inspected, cleaned, maintained, and handled the live and insulated equipment of all key line sections assigned for management and operation.

Along with that, Dak Nong Power Transmission has cleared 320,950m2 of fire protection; pruned trees and shoots in the corridor at 93 pole spaces; mobilized to trim more than 50 rubber trees in the corridor, and compensated for cutting down 65 rubber trees in the corridor.

With the solutions that have been and are being implemented, Power Transmission Company 3 is determined to make efforts with a high sense of responsibility, proactive in operation management and technical solutions, ensuring safe and stable operation of the national power transmission system, improving the reliability of power supply in harsh weather conditions of the dry season, meeting the needs of socio-economic development of localities and people's lives.
