In recent days, social networks have shared many stories about the experiences of customers at Tra Sen Co Dau cafe located in Co Dau eco-zone (Dong Luong Ward, Dong Ha City, Quang Tri) about the "unique, strange" surcharge: Surcharge for eating without drinking with the cost: 10,000 VND.
According to some shares, customers were "stunned" when receiving the restaurant's bill. Because even though they had used the restaurant's services, including food, the restaurant still charged each person an additional 10,000 VND for the strange reason of "eating but not drinking".
Many bills with "unique" surcharges have been shared on social media by diners full of dismay.
Account D.T shared: "Co Dau Park is not a resort or a 5-star hotel! It's early in the morning and I'm still angry", along with a picture of the payment receipt. On the receipt, it clearly stated that D.T's group had used 7 portions of beef steak worth 280,000 VND, 2 portions of red bean porridge with goby fish worth 60,000 VND but were still charged an additional 9 portions worth 90,000 VND because they "did not eat or drink".
Another account shared, “It’s been 29 years since I stumbled upon this, it’s a bit painful,” with a picture of the bill, including 50,000 VND for a mixed fried egg dish and 10,000 VND for “eating without drinking.”
Most of the comments said that this surcharge is unreasonable and strange to the living standards and business practices of coffee shops and restaurants in general in Dong Ha City. According to them, the amount of 10,000 VND is not much, but it is like they cannot believe their eyes when receiving the bill.
Others commented that when customers enter the restaurant, they have the right to choose food and drinks and asked: "If there is an additional charge for eating without drinking, is there also an additional charge for drinking without eating?"
The coffee shop was reported to have a very strange type of surcharge.
Regarding this issue, at noon on October 24, Thanh Nien contacted the hotline of the Tra Sen Co Dau coffee shop and was told by a man who claimed to be the manager of this coffee shop that this was a private matter of the shop.
Responding to Thanh Nien reporter, Mr. Nguyen Chon Thu, Chairman of Dong Luong Ward People's Committee, said that he had heard about the "unique, strange" surcharge at Tra Sen Co Dau coffee shop because it was too noisy on social networks. He has now asked Dong Luong Ward Police to verify and clarify the truth of the incident.
