When he was born, his mother named him Phuc Duc as a wish that her son would always live a kind and virtuous life and receive blessings in life.

My disability makes me a bit inconvenient compared to my friends, but that is not a misfortune to be self-conscious about, but to contribute as much as I can.
NGUYEN PHUC DUC
Live a meaningful life
Phuc Duc was born with a healthy body like any other child. Then in the 6th grade, an incident happened that caused Duc to lose part of his right arm. That disability made him become withdrawn and afraid to communicate with others. It was a really difficult time for him, both in daily life and in studying. The inferiority complex of being disabled kept haunting Duc, sometimes making him think negatively. Duc's journey to school was not easy. He had been admitted to a college in Hanoi, but he had to drop out because his family was too poor, and the cost of studying and living in the capital was too expensive to bear. He was forced to choose to return home to pursue veterinary medicine. But with a part of his body missing, people were concerned about the job opportunities for the young man in the future. Once again, Duc left his studies unfinished. It took him 5 years to calculate and choose a career and a school, and it took him a long time to find the right fit when he was advised to pursue tourism. Admitted to the tourism management department of the University of Science (Thai Nguyen University), Duc restarted his passion when he was older than his classmates. Choosing to return to school not only helped Duc improve his knowledge but also gradually open up to communicate with more people. He found joy in participating in school clubs and actively participating in Youth Union and Association activities. Thanks to that, Duc made many new friends, became more confident and realized that he was luckier than many people. That is also the time when you ask yourself why you should feel inferior when your own shortcomings are only small.Sharing blood
Duc remembers one day when a friend invited him to donate blood voluntarily, out of curiosity he also signed up. It was his first time donating blood so he was quite nervous but he felt extremely happy because he had just done something meaningful to help patients. Overcoming the nervous feeling of that first time, realizing that donating blood does not cause any harm to health, depending on his health condition, Duc regularly went to familiar blood donation points every few months to share his blood. Not donating blood alone, the young man from Thai Nguyen actively promoted and mobilized many people to participate, sometimes even taking on the task of taking care of people coming to the blood donation point. Duc was also the one who planned and directly participated in organizing activities of the Red Journey, Volunteer Colors and then became the deputy head of the Thai Nguyen Provincial Red Cross Youth Association. Duc said that thanks to donating blood, he had the opportunity to meet children with congenital hemolytic anemia (Thalassemia). Talking with them, the love arose, urging him to do this more often. Honored as one of the 100 outstanding blood donors nationwide in 2023, meeting and listening to the Prime Minister's sharing, Duc said it helped him more clearly identify his responsibility to contribute to the community. "People with disabilities have some obstacles in career orientation, employment, and integration into life. The Youth Union and Association can help create an environment for young people like me to have the conditions to contribute more to society and the community" - Duc wishes. Ms. Pham Thi Thu Hien - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, President of the Vietnam Students' Association of Thai Nguyen province - said that Phuc Duc is very active and enthusiastic about the Association's activities and the student movement. Duc won the title of "Advanced Youth Following Uncle Ho's Teachings" at the provincial level, and was awarded a certificate of merit by the Chairman of the Thai Nguyen Provincial People's Committee for his outstanding achievements in the humanitarian blood donation movement in 2023. "He always shows high responsibility in his work, is a shining example of the will to overcome difficulties, surpass himself, especially always being optimistic and bringing positive energy to those around him" - Ms. Hien said.
