The three provinces have a particularly important position in the development of marine and coastal economies; playing a driving role in promoting the overall development of the South Central and Central Highlands regions.
On the morning of January 20, in Nha Trang City (Khanh Hoa), the Conference on Socio-Economic Development Cooperation between the three provinces of Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa and Ninh Thuan took place. Attending were Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Khac Dinh, leaders of the National Assembly Office, the Ministry of Planning and Investment and leaders of Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa and Ninh Thuan provinces.
Strategic location
The three provinces of Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, and Ninh Thuan belong to the South Central sub-region, and have a particularly important geographical position in the development of the marine economy and coastal economic activities. This is also the main gateway to the sea of the Central Highlands region, connecting the East-West economic corridor, playing the role of a driving force for the overall development of the South Central and Central Highlands regions.
Mr. Tran Quoc Nam, Chairman of Ninh Thuan Provincial People's Committee, assessed: "Khanh Hoa, Phu Yen and Ninh Thuan have quite similar natural conditions, connected to the country's main traffic routes, convenient for exchange, association, investment cooperation and development in many fields with international and other localities across the country. At the same time, they play a bridging role in the connection, promoting regional socio-economic development, between localities in the South Central, Central Highlands and Southeast regions".
According to comrade Tran Quoc Nam, in recent times, the attention and leadership of the Party, National Assembly and Government have helped the three localities in particular achieve many significant achievements in various fields, with socio-economic development moving forward strongly each year.
With favorable locations, the three provinces of Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, and Ninh Thuan have gradually developed marine and coastal economic sectors such as: Maritime economy; aquaculture; shipbuilding industry; marine tourism; development of economic zones, concentrated industrial zones and coastal export processing zones associated with coastal urban areas...
However, according to Mr. Nguyen Tan Tuan, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, cooperation and development linkage between localities in the region have been gradually promoted, but the potential and strengths of each locality have not yet been fully exploited. Some provinces have infrastructure in terms of seaports, airports, and economic zones, but the key economic sectors of the localities have overlaps, leading to a scattered investment structure, low efficiency of use, low quality of planning, and lack of synchronous linkages...
Cooperation for development
At the conference, the leaders of the three provinces signed cooperation agreements in seven areas, including: Agriculture - forestry - fisheries; investment promotion, trade, services; tourism, culture; transportation; health, education and training, labor and employment; environmental protection, natural disaster prevention, climate change adaptation; security - defense.
Comrade Nguyen Khac Dinh, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, noted that cooperation between the three provinces needs to closely follow the policies and guidelines of the Party and State, focusing on the goal of "a region of dynamic, rapid and sustainable development, strong in marine economy, with synchronous and modern economic and social infrastructure".
Cooperation must go hand in hand with environmental protection, ensuring social progress and equity, promoting traditional cultural values and ensuring national defense and security. Localities also need to proactively research and actively coordinate with central ministries and branches to propose and build development mechanisms and policies, especially specific and breakthrough mechanisms and policies, to remove bottlenecks, unlock resources to create development momentum for each locality, the three provinces and the whole region.
