The activities of the Cultural and Tourism Week of the Ancestral Land will take place from April 21-28 in Viet Tri city, Phu Tho province, actively contributing to the propaganda, introduction and promotion of Vietnamese cultural heritage, showing respect for ancestors, following the spirit of "When drinking water, remember its source" of the Vietnamese people.
This will also be a common festival for the nation, people at home and abroad to burn incense to worship their ancestors, participate in attractive and unique cultural activities, expressing their respect and gratitude to the Hung Kings who built the country, and the ancestors who protected the country for the people.
The Organizing Committee said that the Hung Temple Festival, the Culture - Tourism Week of the Ancestral Land and activities to promote, introduce and advertise Vietnamese cultural heritage include 5 main events and activities. In particular, Phu Tho province will host the Hung Temple Festival and the Culture - Tourism Week of the Ancestral Land in 2023 at Hung Vuong Square, Viet Tri City, Phu Tho province from April 21-28.
The Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Phu Tho said that in order to prepare well for these major events, the People's Committee of Phu Tho province has met and discussed many plans regarding security, epidemic prevention, and accommodation. Phu Tho is expected to welcome about 8 million visitors during this occasion, with about 2.5 million visitors coming in the past few days. Because this is the first year that many cultural events are held at the same time, and coincides with the April 30 - May 1 holiday, the number of visitors will be higher than other occasions. The Organizing Committee has reviewed accommodation facilities to have a plan to divide the flow, avoiding local overload.
In addition, Phu Tho also committed to not having any price gouging or traffic diversion to avoid "disruption". Subcommittees on security, health, traffic... have also made plans to best prepare for major events.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will co-chair with the People's Committee of Phu Tho province to organize the Festival to display intangible cultural heritages of Vietnam recognized by UNESCO from April 21 to 24. The festival will have the participation of artisans, practitioners, and intangible cultural heritage subject communities in provinces and cities with intangible cultural heritages.
In particular, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the People's Committee of Phu Tho province, and the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO jointly organized the 20th Anniversary of the implementation of the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The organization of the celebration is part of the Plan for implementing activities of the Member of the Intergovernmental Committee for the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Vietnam for the 2022-2026 term, contributing to strengthening coordination with UNESCO and agencies, organizations, and member countries in promoting the implementation of the Convention and enhancing the capacity to protect intangible cultural heritage.
Along with that is the Conference - Workshop "Promoting the role of cultural heritage associated with tourism development". This event aims at a scientific space for leaders, policy makers, scholars, scientists and stakeholders to exchange and discuss the role of cultural heritage in sustainable tourism development.
At the same time, delegates exchanged and discussed the development of a strategy to position local brands on domestic and international tourism maps as well as mechanisms, policies and solutions to promote responsible tourism business, develop local economies; strengthen coordination between relevant parties, connect regions to build a sustainable heritage tourism ecosystem.
The exhibition of cultural heritage and tourism in the capital regions of Vietnam takes place from April 21-29 to practically introduce, promote and advertise cultural heritage, contributing to enhancing the international position and prestige of Vietnam. The images will also contribute to evaluating the effectiveness of state management of intangible cultural heritage and activities to protect and promote the value of heritage after being recognized by UNESCO; demonstrating Vietnam's efforts and role in implementing its commitments when participating in the 2003 UNESCO Convention on the research, inventory, identification, practice, teaching, promotion and introduction of intangible cultural heritage after being recognized by UNESCO. These images are also shown in the National Periodic Reports; affirming the important role of the 2003 UNESCO Convention on the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
This is a practical activity to carry out the functions and tasks of Vietnam as a member of the Intergovernmental Committee as stipulated in the 2003 Convention; to implement Vietnam's commitments when participating in the election to this Committee; to implement the National Action Program committed to UNESCO for the heritage after being inscribed.
This celebration also once again emphasizes the efforts and role of Vietnam in implementing its commitment when participating in the 2003 UNESCO Convention on the study, inventory, identification, practice, transmission, promotion and introduction of intangible cultural heritage after being inscribed by UNESCO, to be reflected in the National Periodic Reports. Thereby, the Organizing Committee also affirmed the important role of the 2003 UNESCO Convention on the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, evaluating the effectiveness of state management of intangible cultural heritage and activities to protect and promote the value of heritage after being inscribed by UNESCO.
