BHG - In recent years, the Women's Union of Vi Xuyen district has constantly innovated its content and implemented many practical activities to reduce plastic waste and protect the environment. Notably, the "Anti-plastic waste" movement has been deployed in conjunction with the campaign "Building a family of 5 no's and 3 clean's", contributing to the construction of the New Rural Area and protecting public health.
Currently, the Women's Union of Vi Xuyen district has 23,461 members, operating at 24 commune and town associations. Recognizing the serious harm of plastic waste to the environment and human health, the Women's Union of the district has implemented the model "Women limit the use of plastic bags and disposable plastic products" in communes and towns. Women members are instructed to classify waste at the source, use plastic baskets instead of plastic bags when going to the market, reuse plastic bottles to plant trees, make decorative items, and organize periodic environmental cleaning campaigns. Up to now, the Women's Union of the district has maintained 41 models of "Women's groups carrying baskets to the market", "Women carrying bamboo sticks", "Women carrying string bags" with 1,186 members. These models have brought about clear results, gradually raising awareness and changing the habit of using nylon bags and disposable plastic products to using products of natural origin and environmentally friendly.

Ms. Ban Thi Hong, a member of Tung Ba commune, shared: “Before, every time I went to the market, I brought a handful of plastic bags containing vegetables, fruits, fish, meat, etc. When the Association promoted anti-plastic waste and environmental protection, I realized the harmful effects of plastic bags, so from then on I used plastic baskets to go to the market, which is both more economical and cleaner. Every day, my sisters and I clean the alleys, use recycled items in daily life, and ensure the environment is always clean.”
In order for the "Anti-plastic waste" movement to spread widely, the District Women's Union regularly coordinates with agencies and units to organize communication sessions, seminars, and competitions for good propagandists on environmental protection. Many lively forms such as dramatization and short videos have attracted the active participation of members. In particular, propaganda is integrated into branch activities, village meetings, residential groups and associated with major holidays such as World Environment Day, Vietnamese Women's Day, etc., helping women to easily absorb and have more motivation to change their consumption habits. In 2024, the Women's Union at all levels organized more than 120 direct propaganda sessions in villages, hamlets, schools and traditional markets; distributed more than 5,000 leaflets instructing on waste classification and reducing plastic use; branches organized nearly 200 general cleaning sessions on village roads and alleys, collecting more than 10 tons of plastic waste. In addition, the Association also mobilized women to sign a commitment not to litter, regularly clean up women's self-managed roads; and maintain 75 models of "Women's Association of 5 no's, 3 cleans to build new rural areas" with over 4,000 members.

Comrade Le Thi Tuyet Van, President of the Women's Union of Vi Xuyen district, said: "In recent times, realizing the serious harm caused by plastic waste pollution, the Women's Union of the district has increased propaganda, guided members to classify and treat household waste, effectively organized the movement against plastic waste, and at the same time built a model to protect the environment, limiting the use of plastic products. In the coming time, we will continue to expand models against plastic waste, combine organizing training courses, communication at the grassroots level, and mobilize resources to support families in using environmentally friendly items and responding to climate change; mobilize members and women to organize family life well, keep their homes clean and tidy."
The “Anti-plastic waste” movement associated with the “5 no, 3 clean” campaign in Vi Xuyen district is increasingly spreading widely and bringing positive results. The specific and practical actions from the women’s union members themselves not only contribute to changing the face of the countryside but also raise public awareness in protecting the environment and improving the quality of life.
