According to Nguyen Thi Hao, Director of the Hanoi Center for VocationalEducation and Women’s Development, traditional crafts are a precious gem in the Vietnamese cultural treasure. With more than 1,350 villages with crafts, of which 327 are recognized as traditional craft villages, Hanoi has great potential to develop the cultural industry.

In craft villages, female workers account for more than 65%. Women are the force that preserves, creates and brings traditional handicraft products to the domestic and international markets. There are more and more female artisans and skilled workers who not only preserve their profession, but also develop it in a modern direction, innovate designs, apply technology to production, contributing to enhancing the economic value and cultural identity of craft village products...

Ung Hoa is the locality chosen to host the program. This is a land rich in cultural traditions with 138 craft villages, of which 21 villages are recognized as traditional craft villages. Many typical crafts such as: Quang Phu Cau incense sticks, Trach Xa ao dai sewing, vermicelli making, mother-of-pearl inlay, bamboo and rattan weaving... are developing into experiential tourism products associated with building a cultural brand for craft villages.

At the program, delegates were informed about the role, potential, and challenges of women in developing cultural industries in craft villages; and participated in discussions to exchange and share models and initiatives of women in localities. The space displaying craft village products of Ung Hoa district also attracted great attention from delegates, contributing to spreading the image of creative, skillful women who are attached to their hometown craft villages.

Through this activity, the Hanoi Women's Union and Ung Hoa district continue to affirm their role in accompanying and supporting women to improve their capacity and promote creativity in preserving and developing traditional cultural values, contributing to realizing the goal of building Hanoi into a creative city, harmonizing tradition and modernity.
