Gio Linh district women spread the message of environmental protection

Over the years, the Gio Linh District Women's Union has always paid attention to directing all levels of the union to implement the campaign "Building a family of 5 no's, 3 clean's" associated with the movement "Gio Linh women join hands to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas", in which the focus is on promoting the core role in building a green, clean and beautiful environment. Women's cadres and members in the whole district are united, dynamic, creative, clearly demonstrating their responsibility and effectively contributing to each project and part of environmental protection, while widely spreading the message of environmental protection in the community.

Recognizing the importance of environmental protection, the Gio Linh Town Women's Union has organized many propaganda campaigns, mobilizing female cadres and members to effectively classify waste at source; participating in material support and working days to build bright, green, clean, beautiful and safe self-managed women's roads as well as investing in purchasing public trash cans on the roads, building a model of "Green House - collecting scrap to raise funds"... Thereby, creating a positive change from awareness to action in each female member.

Chairwoman of Gio Linh District Women's Union Tran Thi Long said that the District Women's Union has proactively developed and effectively implemented many programs and activities on environmental protection in all levels of the union, creating a strong change from awareness to action of cadres and members.

Typically, the women's associations at all levels have effectively implemented the campaign "Building a family of 5 no's, 3 clean's" associated with the movement "Gio Linh women join hands to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas", with 100% of the associations registering to carry out at least 1 project or task contributing to building new rural areas and civilized urban areas; 100% of the women's associations of communes and towns registering to support households to meet the criteria of "5 no's, 3 clean" families. Up to now, 121 households have been supported to meet the criteria of "5 no's, 3 clean" families.

In 2024, the District Women's Union coordinated with Linh Truong commune to successfully organize the launching ceremony of the peak period of building Linh Truong commune to meet new rural standards; directed the construction of a family model of "5 yes, 3 clean" and supported the construction of a model garden in Trung Son commune; organized a response to the "Emulation movement to build Gio Linh women of the new era, joining hands to build new rural areas", with a series of activities of Ao Dai performance, skits, waste classification and treatment, recycled costume performance, and donation of the project "Country Road Light"...

In addition, the District Women's Union promoted propaganda and mobilization of waste collection, reduced plastic waste, and cleaned village roads and alleys, attracting thousands of members to participate; coordinated with relevant agencies and units to launch and guide waste classification and treatment at source, and gave waste baskets to people in difficult circumstances, thereby helping them have favorable conditions to collect, classify, and treat waste right at home in accordance with regulations.

At the grassroots level, the Women's Unions of communes and towns actively responded to the direction of superiors, proactively developing environmental protection activities suitable to the actual situation of the locality and the strengths of each cadre and women's union member. A bright spot in environmental protection work is that the unions at all levels promote propaganda and mobilize women's union members to classify waste at households, limit plastic waste, nylon bags, etc.

Up to now, 100% of the families of union officials and 85% of the families of union members have classified waste at source. Some women's unions have coordinated with the People's Committees of Gio Hai and Trung Giang communes to disseminate the Law on Environmental Protection and guide members to classify and treat waste at home, and organized a contest for women in environmental protection with 1,450 women participating.

Phong Binh Commune Women's Union presented 182 trash baskets and 91 market baskets to female members of poor and near-poor households; Gio Quang Commune Women's Union coordinated with the Provincial Women's Union to organize training to support the construction of green trash pits and the use of biological products as organic fertilizers for female members of poor, near-poor and disadvantaged households, and at the same time supported the "Green trash pit" model for 18 poor, near-poor and disadvantaged female members of Vinh Quang Thuong village.

In addition, the association at all levels actively responded to "Saturday and Sunday for the new countryside", organized cadres and members to simultaneously clean the environment on self-managed roads, planted new "love flower roads"...; built flower beds, bulletin boards, model flagpoles, model gardens, mobilized working days to build rural concrete roads, gave out trash baskets, trash cans..., attracting over 6,500 members to participate; replicated the model "Green House - collecting scrap to raise funds", up to now the whole district has 48 models of "Green House - collecting recycled waste", joining hands to prevent waste and protect the environment.

In recent times, the Gio Linh District Women's Union has focused on promoting activities to support women in economic development and sustainable poverty reduction. In particular, much attention has been paid to guiding and supporting female members in organic production, building clean agriculture and signing commitments to produce and trade products with clear origins and ensuring food safety and hygiene.

Coordinate with relevant units to successfully organize many festivals to display and introduce typical, safe and quality products of women's union members in the district, attracting thousands of people inside and outside the district to visit and shop; organize forums to connect producers and consumers of clean agricultural products, food safety and hygiene seminars, organize communication contests to learn about the Law on Environmental Protection...

Up to now, the association at all levels has effectively maintained 1 cooperative, 43 cooperative groups, and joint groups; successfully built 242 models of women doing good business, with income from 150 - 300 million VND/year. The encouraging thing is that the majority of women's association members' families who produce and process food strictly follow scientific processes, ensuring safety for themselves and consumers, actively contributing to the good implementation of environmental protection work, building an increasingly civilized and prosperous homeland.
