With the characteristics of mountainous and border districts, more than 90% of the population are ethnic minorities, each ethnic group has its own customs and practices, however, besides traditional features, some backward customs and practices in daily life, production and beliefs still exist, hindering the development of society. To eliminate backward customs and build a civilized lifestyle, the associations at all levels concretize directives and resolutions, build specific programs and action plans; focus on propagating and mobilizing cadres, members and women to eliminate backward customs and practices in weddings, funerals and daily life, build a civilized lifestyle through branch meetings, clubs, neighborhood meetings, communication at markets, schools... Coordinate with departments, branches and organizations to organize competitions to learn about ethnic cultures, eliminate backward customs and practices at the grassroots level; Develop news, articles, and propaganda reports on the loudspeaker system, the district's electronic information page, the Women's Union's Facebook page, and fanpage to propagate legal regulations on marriage and family, prevent child marriage, incestuous marriage, and reflect the activities of the unions at all levels... The district Women's Union directs all levels of the union to organize officials and members to sign a commitment to eliminate backward customs and practices, and build a civilized lifestyle. Establish many models and clubs to eliminate backward customs and practices.
Implementing Project 8 "Implementing gender equality and solving urgent issues for women and children" in the National Target Program on socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the period 2021 - 2030, the associations at all levels have diversified their forms of propaganda, established many models such as: "Leaders of Change" club model, "Community Trust Address", "Community Communication Team"; organized policy dialogues... Up to now, the associations at all levels have established 96 community communication teams, 5 community trust addresses, 22 clubs of leaders of change; organized policy dialogues in particularly difficult areas; provided training on gender equality, skills in implementing gender mainstreaming for officials in the political system, village elders, hamlet chiefs, and prestigious people in the community; trained in monitoring and evaluating gender equality for grassroots officials; Organize communication campaigns to learn about gender equality, gender prejudice, gender stereotypes and urgent issues for women and children; organize competitions on communication models, creativity and effectiveness in eliminating gender prejudice, gender stereotypes... Thereby, changing "thinking and doing" contributes to eliminating gender prejudices and stereotypes in families and communities, creating a solid foundation to eliminate backward customs, practices and some urgent social issues for women and children in ethnic minority and mountainous areas.

To make people listen and understand the impact of backward customs on family economy, with the viewpoint of "slow and steady wins the race", Ms. Hoang Thi May, Head of the Women's Association of Nam Dong hamlet, Can Nong commune, and other organizations regularly propagate the impacts and consequences of early marriage and incestuous marriage; propagate the coffin placement, not holding long funerals, not slaughtering many buffaloes, cows, pigs causing waste..., in many forms suitable to the customs and practices of the nation. Up to now, marriages are organized solemnly, healthily, economically, civilly, on a scale suitable to the traditional customs and economic conditions of the family and locality, marriage registration is carried out in accordance with the provisions of law; people in the hamlet all practice a cultural and civilized lifestyle, the rate of cultural families is high every year, the rate of poor households is decreasing, the material and spiritual life of people is gradually improving.
With the efforts and joint contributions of all levels of the association, along with the Party Committee, government, departments, and organizations, backward customs and practices among ethnic minorities have gradually been eliminated; awareness of gender equality among women and ethnic minorities has had positive changes. Creating conditions for women to develop the economy and improve the material life of their families.
Eliminating backward customs in mountainous areas and ethnic minorities is a necessary and persistent task, with solutions suitable to the psychology and awareness of the people. Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Ha Quang district, Nong Thi Yen, said: In the coming time, the Union will synchronously deploy many solutions to affirm the role and position of women, continue to mobilize members and women to well implement the 8 criteria of the campaign to build "5 no, 3 clean" families; build and replicate models related to raising awareness of eliminating and eliminating bad customs in the community; encourage people to promote the implementation and improve the quality of the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life", cultural families, build a civilized lifestyle in weddings, funerals and festivals.
