For the past two days in Quang Binh , a rather short social media post by a parent has been causing a stir, revealing that the class fund collection amounted to 2 million VND for one school year.
Specifically, this parent wrote: "11th grade: In the first semester, the class fund was in deficit. At the beginning of the second semester, we had to pay an additional 500,000 VND per student. At the end of the second semester, we had to pay an additional 650,000 VND per student for 45 students. That's a deficit of nearly 30 million VND. That's a record high."

The post caused a stir on social media.
Further explaining the "brief" questions above, the person believed to have written the status update stated that her child is an 11th-grade student at Dao Duy Tu High School (Dong Hoi City, Quang Binh Province).
At the beginning of the school year and the second semester, parents claimed to have paid the class fund twice, totaling 1 million VND (500,000 VND each time). However, after the recent end-of-year parent meeting, the homeroom teacher and the class's parent association continued to solicit an additional 1 million VND (650,000 VND for the class fund and 350,000 VND for the party).
Parents also argued that the amount of 2 million VND per student per year for the class fund was excessive, considering the class has 45 students, thus totaling 90 million VND.
Regarding these controversies, Mr. Duong Van Trai, Principal of Dao Duy Tu High School, said that the school's management board had invited the homeroom teacher and representatives of the parent-teacher association to a meeting to clarify the matter.

According to Mr. Trai, the collection of the aforementioned fees was real. Specifically, in the first semester, parents of this class paid 500,000 VND, in the second semester they paid 500,000 VND, and the third payment of 1 million VND was only a projected amount for the class fund.
According to Mr. Trai, the reason for such large expenditures was to compensate for the previous deficit in the fund and to organize year-end celebrations, field trips, and awards for high-achieving students.
Mr. Trai stated that he would immediately stop collecting an additional 1 million VND for the class fund. The school's management board will also hold a separate meeting with all parents of this class to continue listening to diverse opinions regarding the collection of class fund money.
According to an investigation by a reporter from Thanh Nien Newspaper, in Quang Binh province, collecting class fund money is not mandatory and is usually initiated by the parent association. Although the amount varies from school to school, the average amount is only a few tens of thousands to a few hundred thousand dong, with the highest not exceeding 1 million dong per student per school year.
