Bruise the child's face because "the baby snores"?
On May 10, information from the Department of Education and Training of Ninh Kieu District said that it had received a report from the Viet Uc Kindergarten (An Hoa Ward, Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City) about a case of a teacher of the school violating child care regulations and being accused by parents of child abuse.
Previously, Ms. Tr.NBU, residing in Binh Thuy Ward, Binh Thuy District, Can Tho City, submitted a petition with evidence to the authorities accusing a teacher at the Viet-Uc Kindergarten of abusing Ms. U.'s child, 5-year-old H.D.Kh, who is in the 3rd grade at the school.

Ms. U. said that at around 2:19 p.m. on April 26, she received a text message from Ms. CQNh (Kh.'s teacher) stating: While taking a nap, Ms. Nh. was sleeping and waved her hand at Kh.'s face, causing a bruise. "When the teacher took a picture of the baby's face and sent it to me, I was shocked to see that the baby's face was swollen and had a hand print. I immediately went to the school to pick up the baby but did not meet Ms. Nh. and was invited by the principal to clarify the incident. Our family requested to meet Ms. Nh. and asked to see all the cameras that day. However, the school said that Ms. Nh. was writing a report; at the same time, they only cut out a small 1 minute 47 second clip for the family to see and explained that because the baby's skin was thin and Ms. Nh.'s hands were bony, she could not control the force that she applied to the baby while sleeping," Ms. U. said. In response to a parent's question about why the teacher hit the child when he was sleeping and not crying, Viet Uc Kindergarten said that Ms. Nh. said "because the child was snoring."
Camera footage shows Ms. Nh. hitting baby Kh. (top row, right) in the face while he was sleeping.
Angry at the teacher's behavior, Ms. U's family reported the incident to An Hoa Ward Police for resolution. "At around 10 p.m. on April 26, at An Hoa Ward Police, I watched the clip extracted from the second camera. I almost fainted when I saw Ms. Nh. continuously hit my child about 10 times on the head, left cheek and left ear while he was taking a nap, causing him to hold his head and face down on the mattress," Ms. U. said indignantly.
After that, Kh.'s family also took him to get his injuries assessed. The examination results at Phuong Chau Hospital and Can Tho Children's Hospital showed that Kh. had bruises on his left cheek, and the family is monitoring him further. Currently, the police are preparing a case file for processing.
The school has fired the teacher.
In the report sent to the Department of Education and Training of Ninh Kieu District, Viet Uc Kindergarten said that Ms. CQNh reported the incident to the school leaders as follows: During nap time, baby H.D.Kh snored loudly. Ms. Nh. shook the baby's face to stop snoring, but the baby still snored loudly. She used her hand to pat the baby's face to stop snoring so that the other children in the class could sleep. When she woke up, Ms. Nh. discovered that the baby's face had a bruise on the left cheek. Ms. Nh. sent a picture and contacted the parents to apologize.
The child's family then went to work at the school. The school coordinated to open the classroom camera for the parents to review and apologized to the student's family. The school also decided to terminate the contract with Ms. CQNh on April 26, 2024 and transfer a teacher to replace Ms. Nh.
"The school also held a meeting with all teachers to announce the decision to terminate the contract with Ms. CQNh and remind teachers to pay more attention to child care management," the report of Viet Uc Kindergarten wrote.
On the afternoon of May 10, speaking with Thanh Nien reporter, Ms. U., mother of baby Kh., said that while the case was being handled by the police, on the morning of May 8, two strange men came to her house and asked the family to withdraw the complaint sent to the police. However, this request was rejected by Ms. U. At about 11:58 p.m. the same day, Ms. U.'s house was suddenly thrown dirty substances at the door by two strangers, causing the family to be confused and scared. The family has now reported the incident to the police.
