Parents waiting for their children at the school gate

On June 4, the Department of Education and Training of Quang Binh province said that a total of 13,699 candidates in the province entered the exam for admission to grade 10 in the 2024-2025 school year, of which 80 were independent candidates and 254 were absent from the exam.

Quang Binh province organized an examination council with 30 examination sites and 519 examination rooms. The admission method of this year's exam combines entrance examination and selection. The new point is that candidates only take 2 exams: Literature and Math - instead of 3 subjects (the third exam is English) like last year's admission exam.

For admission to Vo Nguyen Giap High School for the Gifted in Dong Hoi City, the Steering Committee for the 10th grade entrance exam in Quang Binh Province does not exempt candidates from the English exam when they have certificates, does not organize non-specialized classes, and increases one specialized Literature class compared to the previous school year.

1,000 VND coins scattered at the tree roots in front of the gate of Vo Nguyen Giap High School for the Gifted in Quang Binh

Notably, before the official exam this morning, many people discovered that in front of the gate of Vo Nguyen Giap High School for the Gifted, some people with their heads covered came to the school gate and scattered coins and prayed. Many people thought that the parents were spreading coins and praying in the hope that their children would pass the exam to the specialized school.

After receiving the report, volunteers from the Quang Binh Provincial Youth Union arrived early and collected the scattered coins. The coins scattered on the street were 1,000 VND banknotes.

Mr. Nguyen Giang Nam, Head of the Examination Department of the Quang Binh Department of Education and Training, said that passing the entrance exam to specialized schools and high schools depends on the students' academic ability. If they study well, the chance of passing is high, and no one has ever passed by praying.

Mr. Nam said that this was an offensive and unsightly act, and suggested that parents should not use this offensive behavior to force their children to pass the exam. Instead, parents should encourage their children to study hard and persevere in reading books to succeed.
