Phong Dien has a forest area of ​​over 53.9 thousand hectares; of which, the natural forest area is over 41.2 thousand hectares, planted forest is over 12.6 thousand hectares. The forest coverage rate is now 56.98%. With the motto of prevention as the main, ensuring "4 on-site" and "5 ready", right from the beginning of the dry season, the Town People's Committee issued a forest fire prevention and control plan, a plan to mobilize forces when a large fire occurs in the town. At the same time, it directed agencies, departments, branches, forest owners and local authorities at the commune level to seriously review the forest fire prevention and control plans in the management area to ensure that the contents of the plans are detailed, specific, close to reality and effective. Therefore, in 2024, although there were still many fires in the town with a high risk of causing forest fires, they were detected and extinguished promptly, with no damage to the forest.
