Reporting at the Conference, Vice Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese (VAO) Nguyen Manh Dong said that in the past time, in implementing the Coordination Program, the two agencies have effectively deployed VAO work and achieved many positive results.
In the work of advising on policies and work of NVNONN, the two sides coordinate to contribute ideas to build and implement each side's projects, coordinate to build the Regulations on organization and operation of the Central Relief Mobilization Committee, summarize 20 years of implementing Resolution No. 23-NQ/TW of the 9th Party Central Committee on promoting the strength of great national unity for a rich people, strong country, fair, democratic and civilized society; coordinate in building, reviewing and giving opinions on legal documents and policies related to NVNONN such as proposing measures to remove obstacles in the issue of re-naturalization for NVNONN...
The two sides also coordinated in evaluating, selecting and introducing overseas Vietnamese to join the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; coordinated in organizing activities to welcome outstanding overseas Vietnamese delegations returning home on major holidays such as the Spring Homeland program, the anniversary of the Liberation of the South on April 30 and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on September 2; coordinated in propagating and mobilizing the community and overseas Vietnamese associations to respond to emulation movements and campaigns launched by the Government, the Vietnam Fatherland Front and agencies such as the Campaign "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods", supporting the prevention of the Covid-19 epidemic, supporting compatriots in the country facing difficulties due to natural disasters and floods.
In particular, in recent times, the two agencies have coordinated to support overseas Vietnamese in difficult areas such as Laos and Cambodia; and support overseas Vietnamese affected by natural disasters and epidemics around the world. Most recently, the two sides discussed and coordinated to propose support for the community in Poland affected by a fire.
“The overseas Vietnamese community continues to increase in number and expand in composition, with about 6 million people in 130 countries and territories. In addition to the increase in number, the role, position and prestige of the overseas Vietnamese community in the host society are increasingly enhanced, creating soft power in foreign affairs activities, connecting Vietnam with the host country. In the context of many difficulties and challenges in the world, our overseas Vietnamese are still united, have many activities to join hands towards the homeland, promoting the role as an important resource in the process of national development,” said Mr. Nguyen Manh Dong.
Regarding the tasks in the coming time, Ms. Le Thi Thu Hang, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chairwoman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, said that the two sides need to choose focused and key contents, avoiding spreading out to maximize resources and achieve the highest efficiency in coordination work.
In addition, the two sides continue to coordinate in organizing many practical activities, diversifying the forms of gathering and mobilizing overseas Vietnamese to contribute to the development of their homeland and country. Along with organizing the Homeland Spring Program, the two agencies continue to coordinate in organizing a delegation of outstanding overseas Vietnamese to visit Truong Sa; paying attention to praising, rewarding and honoring outstanding overseas Vietnamese every year.
Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman Hoang Cong Thuy highly appreciated the coordination results between the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese; at the same time, he affirmed that the recent positive and practical results have contributed to strengthening the confidence of overseas Vietnamese in the country's development.
Regarding future directions, Vice President Hoang Cong Thuy suggested that the two sides continue to study to soon amend and promulgate new coordination regulations between the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese.
Vice Chairman Hoang Cong Thuy suggested that the two agencies coordinate more actively and do a better job of widely disseminating and propagating Conclusion No. 12-KL/TW, dated August 12, 2021 of the Politburo on working with overseas Vietnamese in the new situation and Conclusion 03 of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front on implementing Conclusion No. 12.
On that basis, the two sides focused on innovating the content of information and propaganda work for NVNONN in the direction of closely following the needs of each locality, suitable for each specific target, diversifying information transmission methods, promoting the role of press and media agencies of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the State Committee for NVNONN and member organizations of the Front, supporting to improve the effectiveness of diverse communication channels of the NVNONN community.
In addition, the two sides continue to coordinate to perform well the task of representing and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of overseas Vietnamese, further promoting the resources of more than 6 million Vietnamese people living abroad; continue to coordinate to organize activities for overseas Vietnamese such as the Homeland Spring program; organize a great solidarity train to visit the army and people of Truong Sa island district; coordinate to organize the fourth World Conference of Overseas Vietnamese; coordinate to research and organize a pilot national great solidarity festival for overseas Vietnamese; increase meetings and receptions of outstanding overseas Vietnamese delegations to visit their homeland...
Emphasizing the need to continue to coordinate in reviewing and drafting new legal documents related to the work of overseas Vietnamese, Vice President Hoang Cong Thuy suggested that the two sides should select key points for each stage, prioritizing monitoring and criticizing the implementation of legal policies on nationality and investment attraction; promoting the intellectual potential of overseas Vietnamese; resolving difficulties for overseas Vietnamese when returning to live and work in the country; teaching and learning Vietnamese, preserving and promoting the cultural identity of the Vietnamese nation in the overseas Vietnamese community.
“2024 is the year to organize the 10th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, term 2024-2029, the two agencies need to coordinate in selecting exemplary and worthy NVNONN personnel to join the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front for the new term,” Vice Chairman Hoang Cong Thuy suggested.
