On the afternoon of November 7, at the Government headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai received Prime Minister of Thuringia State (Federal Republic of Germany) Bodo Ramelow.

Welcoming Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow to Vietnam for the second time after his first visit in April 2019, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai hoped that the Prime Minister would have the opportunity to witness the positive changes in Vietnam and believed that the visit would open up many new cooperation opportunities.

Emphasizing that the Vietnam-Germany relationship continues to develop positively in many areas, especially in trade and investment, the Deputy Prime Minister said that in the overall good cooperation, the friendly relationship between Vietnam and the state of Thuringia, with a long history dating back to the German Democratic Republic, has been constantly consolidated, nurtured and developed increasingly positively.

On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai thanked the Thuringian state government for providing Vietnam with medical equipment in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, helping to promptly control the epidemic and quickly restore socio-economic development.

The Deputy Prime Minister appreciated the fact that the state of Thuringia opened a representative office in Hanoi in 2009 and currently has about 50 enterprises of the state implementing business and training projects in Vietnam. Many skilled Vietnamese workers have come to work in the state with good results.

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his delight at knowing that many businesses are accompanying Premier Bodo Ramelow on his working trip to Vietnam this time, thereby creating great opportunities to strengthen connections and exploit new business cooperation opportunities for both sides.

Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow said that the state of Thuringia has more than 4,000 Vietnamese people living and working. For a long time, the Vietnamese community has been the largest foreign community here. Emphasizing the state of Thuringia's affection for Vietnam, he said that Thuringia currently has more than 700 Vietnamese students studying vocational training. Tonight, he will receive parents preparing to send their children to the state to study.

This visit to Vietnam by Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow had a record number of business members. He shared his desire to seek opportunities to promote bilateral cooperation, including establishing a vocational training facility in Vietnam and seeking Vietnamese businesses to invest.

Regarding the strengths, Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow said that Vietnam and the state of Thuringia have many things in common. He hopes to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in the fields of training, labor, medicine, etc. in the coming time.

Thanking Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow for sharing his feelings towards Vietnam, as well as the cooperation opportunities between Thuringia and Vietnam, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai suggested that Thuringia in particular and the Federal Republic of Germany in general continue to promote activities to make bilateral cooperation increasingly practical and effective.

The two sides continue to exchange delegations, research, connect, and establish partnerships with Vietnamese localities that have similarities or complement each other, to promote local cooperation between the two sides in areas of strength of the state and Vietnam's needs.

Noting that Vietnam is currently opening up many new investment opportunities, the Deputy Prime Minister hoped that Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow would encourage Thuringian enterprises to invest and do business in Vietnam and support the German Parliament to soon ratify the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).

The Deputy Prime Minister believes that the Agreement will bring many good cooperation prospects for businesses of both sides in the investment field, especially in areas where Germany has strengths and Vietnam has demand.

The Deputy Prime Minister asked Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow to promote mechanisms and frameworks for long-term cooperation in vocational training with Vietnam to create conditions for the Vietnamese workforce to have opportunities to be trained and work in Germany.

The Thuringia State Government continues to create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live, study, work, do business, and deeply integrate into German society, thereby continuing to make positive contributions to socio-economic life, contributing to promoting friendship between the two countries.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai hopes that the state of Thuringia and the German Government will strengthen cooperation and support Vietnam in finance, technology, human resource training, share experience in building policies for activities to respond to climate change and develop a green and sustainable economy, and implement commitments on emission reduction at COP 26.
