Speaking at the conference, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son assessed that 2024 achieved many positive results in the context of complicated strategic competition, creating great pressure to maintain the supply chain.
Exports over 400 billion USD
“The important results achieved show that we have overcome difficulties and contributed to the common goal. Achieving and surpassing 15/15 targets is a great effort, especially the growth target which is not easy. Previously, we struggled to achieve only 5%, but now wherever we go, people praise us as a bright spot,” the Deputy Prime Minister expressed.
According to Mr. Son, the above results are due to the contribution of the Industry and Trade sector. Especially in creating breakthroughs in institutions, policy mechanisms, advising on restarting the Ninh Thuan nuclear power project, and removing obstacles in renewable energy projects...
Notably, the strong recovery of industrial production was the main driver of growth. Import and export turnover reached nearly 800 billion USD, of which exports exceeded 400 billion USD, effectively exploiting FTAs. The trade balance maintained a surplus, contributing to improving the balance of payments.

Make room for growth
Looking at the increasing challenges in 2025 and with the mindset of entering a new era, Mr. Son said that to achieve the development target, the growth rate must reach double digits, requiring great efforts. Therefore, solutions are needed to free up resources and the Industry and Trade sector needs to play a pioneering role in socio-economic development.
Accordingly, the Deputy Prime Minister assigned the task that the sector needs to focus on creating a favorable and transparent legal environment for investment and business, associated with perfecting and effectively implementing institutions and policies.
Develop high value-added, low-carbon industries, promote focus on key industries, hydrogen industrial ecosystem, supporting industries, attract investment, promote R&D, ensure electricity supply and promote new power sources….
Increase trade promotion, consolidate traditional markets and expand new markets, promote sustainable exports. Promote domestic market development, prepare goods sources, fight against origin fraud, counterfeit goods, etc.
Receiving comments, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien said that he will promptly institutionalize legal policies, creating new space and resources for development. Especially policies related to renewable energy, developing competitive electricity markets, gas-fired power, offshore wind power, two-component electricity prices, etc.
Accelerate the implementation of key industrial and energy projects to create room for development. Increase international economic integration, anticipate investment projects of multinational corporations, improve management skills, and transfer technology to increase competitiveness.
Regarding the streamlining of the apparatus, Mr. Dien emphasized that it will be implemented effectively, although this is a difficult, complicated, and sensitive task, it cannot be avoided. Focus on doing a good job of ideological work and personnel policies, creating high consensus and unity, absolutely not allowing the idea of comparison or delay in performing tasks, so that the new model is better than the old model.
