Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son holds bilateral meetings in the United States

At the meeting with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son respectfully thanked the Party, State and People of Cuba for sending their condolences and encouragement to the Vietnamese people to overcome difficulties and the consequences of storm No. 3 (storm Yagi) and for expressing condolences with brotherly and comradely love for the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to continue to foster and further develop the special Vietnam-Cuba relationship, in which the State visit to Cuba by General Secretary and President To Lam will continue to create new milestones for the comradely, brotherly, trustworthy relationship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed Vietnam's readiness to expand cooperation in the fields of health, pharmaceuticals, tourism, agriculture, energy and construction, and is willing to share its experience in areas of Cuba's need.

Minister Bruno Rodriguez shared his condolences for the human and material losses caused by storm No. 3; and announced that Cuba is ready to assist Vietnam in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters. Affirming the special solidarity, friendship and brotherhood between the Cuban and Vietnamese peoples, the Cuban Foreign Minister emphasized that the Cuban Party, State and People look forward to the State visit of General Secretary and President To Lam.

The two Ministers agreed to closely coordinate and effectively implement high-level agreements, promote the effectiveness of dialogue and cooperation mechanisms between the two countries, including the Political Consultation between the two Foreign Ministries, the Intergovernmental Committee, the Defense Dialogue, and cooperation mechanisms between the two Parties; promote parliamentary diplomacy, local cooperation and people-to-people exchange; and effectively implement activities to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Cuba relations in 2025.

Receiving Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braze, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son emphasized that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to strengthen the traditional friendship and good cooperation with Latvia; thanked Latvia for supporting Vietnam to join the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2023-2025 term, and requested Latvia to continue supporting Vietnam's candidacy for UN mechanisms in the coming time; hoped that Latvia would have a voice in urging the remaining 9 EU member states to soon ratify the Vietnam - EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), and support the EC to soon remove the IUU "yellow card" for Vietnam's seafood exports.

The Latvian Foreign Minister affirmed his support for the remaining EU countries to soon ratify and implement the EVIPA Agreement in order to contribute to bringing practical benefits to the economic, trade and investment relations between Vietnam and Latvia. The two Ministers agreed to coordinate to promote economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries and organize cultural and artistic activities such as Cultural Day, photo exhibitions, film weeks, and art performances to create conditions for the public of the two countries to understand each other; consider signing a new Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the two Foreign Ministries.

At the meeting with the Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan, Mr. Bakhtior Saidov, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son thanked the President and people of Uzbekistan for sending their regards and encouragement to the Vietnamese people to overcome difficulties and overcome the consequences of storm No. 3; affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to the friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Central Asian countries in general and Uzbekistan in particular; expressed his joy at the positive progress in bilateral relations with many bilateral contacts at all levels.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan affirmed that Vietnam is one of Uzbekistan's leading important partners in Southeast Asia; expressed his desire to promote bilateral relations in all areas in depth and substance, especially in economics, trade, education and training, especially in new areas of digital transformation, green transformation, investment, energy, oil and gas, agriculture, and education.

The two Ministers agreed to closely coordinate in promoting bilateral cooperation in areas of potential for both sides through delegation exchanges at all levels and to soon organize the 8th Meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee on Economic-Trade and Scientific-Technological Cooperation.

Receiving Ms. Julie Bishop, the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Myanmar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son congratulated her and expressed his belief that Ms. Bishop will successfully fulfill her duties in her new position. The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister affirmed that Vietnam is ready to cooperate and support the role and efforts of the Special Envoy in seeking sustainable peace solutions, for the benefit of the people of Myanmar, for peace and stability in the region.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son emphasized that Vietnam always hopes that the situation in Myanmar will soon stabilize and will actively discuss with partners and relevant parties to promote restraint, dialogue, reconciliation and implementation of the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus. At the same time, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister emphasized the need to prioritize resolving socio-economic difficulties and humanitarian issues through the “ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disasters” (AHA).

Special Envoy Julie Bishop thanked and shared the assessments of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son on the situation in Myanmar. Ms. Bishop affirmed her interest and support for ASEAN's central role and efforts in finding solutions to the Myanmar issue, highly appreciated Vietnam's active role and shared some upcoming priorities to find solutions to the Myanmar issue.
